    Default The Newsroom on HBO

Anyone been watching the new series "The Newsroom" on HBO? Four episodes in and I am hooked. I was hooked after the opening scene from episode one. It's very refreshing and quite possibly one of the best shows on TV if you ask me.

THE NEWSROOM 1st Full-length Trailer - YouTube Season one trailer.

What's really cool is that the series covers real news stories beginning from April 2010. In four episodes they are already to Jan. 2011.

I was tempted to start watching it. I have been looking for a reason to keep my HBO now that game of Thrones is done til next March. I might check out the first episode tomorrow.

Watched the 1st episode and half of the second one. I usually enjoy HBO shows but this one did not do it for me.

The West Wing or The American President in a newsroom. Typical Aaron Sorkin. Although I enjoy it, I take it's political undertones with a grain of salt. It's premise of returning news to what it was in nothing of the kind. It's Sorkin's vision, but really, while Morrow brought down McCarthy, Cronkite, Huntley, and Reasoner were never the bombastic Will McAvoy.

It's rare I don't like an HBO show, but this one just isn't up to their caliber. I don't get the hype. I agree with its overall message but it's tepid, obvious, and couched in a totally unrealistic drama.

Don't think of it as HBO, which typically puts realism at the top of its list. This is pure, unadulterated Aaron Sorkin, who values realism not at all. He revels in his own little ideal world.

I love the way Sorkin dramas are scripted and this has been no different. Both Sports Night and The West Wing were fantastic and I'd put this below both of those to this point, but it's certainly better than Studio 60 was eight episodes in.

I'd never watched West Wing or Sports Night, so I guess that might explain my reaction.

If you can get past the unceasing idealism for the American political system (or appreciate it for what it is: a rousing endorsement of the American political system, despite its imperfections), then I can't recommend The West Wing enough. It's Sorkin's best work on television and the scripting is endlessly fun and interesting. One of my favorite TV shows ever.

A great show. I share Colonel Crazy's appreciation for Olivia Munn. The rest of the cast (most of whom I was unfamiliar with) is great as well.
