    Default Moving sucks

About five years ago, I moved three times within the span of four months. Since then, I've been at the same place, but the opportunity arose to get a place closer to work, with more space and just better all-around conveniences.

But I'm remembering why I hate moving. Packing up dusty books, taking long breaks to sneeze and catch my breath from the reaction to the dust. I'm really not looking forward to moving these records.

I am excited about moving to the new place. It has an actual yard.

I agree JS, it sucks. I've moved into my condo, moved out due to fire and then move in again. All of this with little help. Add in 37 steps to the top floor and I'm dreading when we move out again. I know one thing, I have a 32" tube TV in the bedroom and that thing is being sold with my unit. I'm not kidding the thing weighs 200 pounds and it's impossible to get a good grip on the thing. When we first moved it my buddy and I crashed at the 17th step and luckily our 2nd floor neighbor heard the thud and helped us up the remaining steps. When we moved back in after the fire I dreaded the thought of hauling it back in. Well we got it up into the condo and by the time we made it in the darn thing hit the wall and took a big gash out of my freshly painted walls. I'll make sure I envite any and all BGP members for the next move and I will provide fine liquid bread.

I've got a 36" Sharp tube TV in the garage that usually makes my guts squirm every time I have to move it. Ugh.

I feel your pain. As if there was even a choice in the matter.

    My moving day yesterday:

    8:30 am: Wake up.
    9:00 am: Get to U-Haul.
9:45 am: Leave U-Haul, without a truck. Tell us the reservation was for 1:00 pm, that they called, texted, and emailed the changes. They didn't.
10:15-12:45: Boxing up and moving small things from Point A to Point B.
    1:05: Arrive back at U-Haul.
1:35: Leave U-Haul, without a truck, again, because they failed to tell my girlfriend and room mate that there was a $100 deposit on every truck.
1:45: Arrive at Chase ATM, withdraw money.
2:00: Arrive at U-Haul, for the 3rd time.
    2:30: Leave U-Haul, with a truck!!
2:45: Arrive at Point A, load truck.
4:00: Leave Point A, drive to Point B.
4:15: Arrive at Point B, unload truck.
5:15: Dinner (first food of the day)
6:30: Go to room mate #3's house, to fill up the truck, yet again.
8:30: Arrive back at Point B to unload truck. Again.
9:15: Take truck back to U-Haul.
9:45: Arrive back at Point B. Go to car, dead battery.
9:45-10:45: Try to charge jump car. Car finally starts, turn on lights. Car dies.
11:00: Have girlfriend drive me across town to my apartment to get wallet/check book. Drive to Wal-Mart #1, closed.
11:30: Arrive at Wal-Mart #2, in INDIANA, buy battery.
12:15: Arrive back at Point B, struggle getting old battery off, finally swap them out.
12:40: Car starts, finally leave to go home.

I can't make this up... I had THAT great of a day.

OH......and FYI to all...especially my "good ol' friends"...........

Just because I own a pickup, doesn't mean I bought it to help you move !!!!

I'm at the point where I can buy my own pizza and cheap beer. I actually enjoy them without a hernia !!!

Well, according to your timetable, you were there an hour before closing!

I was doing my "timeline" off the top of my head... I remember looking at the clock in the parking lot and it was like 12:07. I was frustrated to say the least.

Too late. I was originally going to move this coming weekend, but the landlord threw me a curveball and I had to do it yesterday and today. I am thinking about BBQing this coming weekend, though. The new pad is a lot better suited for entertaining than the old place, although I'll miss the garage.

Finally finished everything up yesterday. Next step is to clean the new place and unpack. While a laborious process -- I'm still cramping a bit from sweating so much -- I'm now enjoying some of the fruits of the labor by posting from the porch overlooking my back yard, two features conspicuously absent from the old place. I will miss the garage, though ...
