Hoxworth Kings Island tickets rant
Hoxworth Blood Center just ran a promotion where you would receive a free KI ticket with a blood donation.
RANT: As always anytime you give away anything free, you bring out all the scumbags. While waiting to be screened (no problem as I am a frequent donator), I noticed many, many people getting rejected. When it was my turn, I asked the young lady screening me if all of those who were rejected received tickets. She said yes to thank them or trying. Really? I thought. While waiting for a chair, I asked a tech how many people come and perhaps purposefully answer a question incorrectly just to get disqualified. He said it very high or they know that they have a pre-existing condition that would eliminate them right off the bat.
This really made me made as I am willing to give blood for a good cause. Yet these people had no intention of giving anything. They totally overlook the idea that the purpose of the ticket giveaway is to benefit the community and and fill a medical need.
This whole scam can be avoided by giving the tickets away at the end of the donation process.
Disclaimer: I realize there are a few legitimate people who were disqualified for one reason or another. But I am a pretty good judge of people and I could tell that many of these people were there just to get a freebie.

What, they don't take blue-bloods?

How long are you not eligible?

Life time - due to mad cow disease in Europe during the 80's and 90's. You can check out the Red Cross website on who is not allowed to donate.

I agree with you, Amber Lamp. Sad that that there are so many free loading takers that probably had no intention to give blood.
On the the other hand, if this free ticket promotion brought in a few honest givers, and their blood donation helped save some lives, then that is a good thing.
Thank you, Amber Lamp, and so many of you BGPers who are honest, blood donators.

Don't be flattered by your O blood. They call everyone every 8 weeks.
They talked me into giving doubles last time. It takes a little longer but you only give every 16 weeks and since the Fort Thomas location is closed I figured it would take less overall time because of the drive time. It seemed like It always took me a week or two to get in so I may be able to give more units overall. Down side is no Kings Island tickets for me.

You also save on Alcohol for a couple of days because a little goes a LONG way after doubles....

I want to personally thank all of you who have donated blood, tried to donate blood, given someone a kidney or signed your donor card. Without you, thousands of people would die every day. Through your selfless act, people you will never meet were given a second chance at life. I'm one of those people.

I give double red blood cells every 4 months and so far have given between 6 and 7 gallons. I always give on the first day I am eligible. My date to give has never been in sync with one of Hoxworth's promotions and there have been some that are pretty good. Having said that, I don't give blood to get a gift or paid and would never hold back just to do so. I really wish more people would give blood and I understand that the percentage of people that are eligible to give blood actually do. As to the topic of this thread, there never seems to be a shortage of people that are willing to take advantage of the system. They should give the tickets, or whatever, as you leave after giving blood.

I've given multiple gallons over the years and have only had 1 t-shirt sent to me one time. I never give for the promo, that one happened to be random. I had given for years prior, but when I saw my mom getting a lot of transfusions prior to her death, I realized that someone helped her and it was my duty to help others. Now I make it a point to give. Not just when it is convenient.
