I know a lot of people will shake their head and say with a wink "just Hank Jr being Hank Jr"
In reality, how is this the same or different than what the Dixie Chicks said?

The only difference, is that Hank Williams Jr was talking to fellow US citizens while the Dixie Chicks were in a foreign country bashing the president. Many celebrities had bashed W, but what seemed to incense everyone is that they were doing it in another country. JMO

One of my pet peeves is celebrities making political statements of any kind just for the sake of making them. Most are less informed than the average BGP poster but because they have a open mike they think that what they think is important and everyone needs to hear it.

Speakers or entertainers think it's their given right to speak politics at concerts and college graduations. I really don't care what your political views are.

Surprised that you didn't mention Madonna and her Russian tour!
I mean if Hank is an ignoramuses, what is she, for breaking the Law?
Link
"Anti-gay sentiment is strong in Russia. In St. Petersburg, a law passed in February makes it illegal to promote homosexuality to minors, and the author of that law has pointed to the presence of children as young as 12 at Madonna's concert on Aug. 9." "The complaint includes a video taken at the concert showing Madonna stomping on an Orthodox cross and asking fans to raise their hands to show the pink armbands in support of gays and lesbians that were distributed among the audience, the new agency reported."
Just saying, whats good for one, is good for the other!
You do agree don't you Clyde?

Actually, I want to mention Madeleine Albright, who spoke at the NKU graduation ceremony at US Bank Arena around 2005 - very disappointed to hear her political statements at the end of graduation. Wish I had a link.

or 2004 and Mitch McConnell's loud mouth wife Elaine Chao in 2004 NKU graduation speech that was nothing more than a vote for Bush in 04 campaign. speech. Not the time or place. It got so bad the graduates started chanting "shut her up"

Who cares? I don't think any of the Hanks are known for being politically correct. They say what they want, when they want.
Doesn't mean everyone has to believe it.

Only similar in that both ran their mouth.
If you want to be political as a singer go right ahead. Live with the consequences like the Dixie Chicks did. If Hank Jr doesn't like the POTUS I've got no problem with that. Complain about unemployment. Complain about the economy. Just don't show your ignorance and say crazy stuff.
Madonna took a political stand against homosexuality. My guess is she was prepared to get arrested. She didn't lie. She didn't make things up.
As to the issue of children being there. If you're dumb enough to bring a 12 yr old to a Madonna show that's on you as a parent.
I'm not a fan of either one of them.Last edited by spindoc; Aug 19, 12 at 09:29 PM.

Is there a link within that article that I'm missing that quotes what he said at the concert other than the songs he sang?

I can't imagine anyone thinking the stunt Madonna pulled was okay. It was illegal where it was done, and it was both a sacrilege and an crude insult everywhere else in the world.

To me it's like was said earlier. It's what makes this country great. Freedom of speech we all have a voice. Some look at what Hank says as ignorant and some look at it and cheer. No really surprise. I'd expect a guy like Hank or Charlie Daniels to tell Obama where he can go. Doesn't mean they are right or wrong.
This is one of my pet peeves. We have become so soft as a society that if people aren't politically correct they are totally frowned upon. My personal feelings are you have your base values you believe in. You try to educate yourself and be tolerant of others. If it crosses your values and it's something so strong it totally goes against your beliefs then you have a spine and stand up for what you believe in. Now days most people just fold their tent and do what's the norm to keep from being judged.

Sorry, Spin. I posted the wrong link.
We’ve got a Muslim president who hates farming, hates the military, hates the U.S., and we hate him.

You honestly think what Hank did was so bad in the land of free speech? Really? While I can agree with Hank about the President not being kind to Farmers, and the Military, (I have family who are both) I think he doesn't hate the USA and I don't believe he is a Muslim!
Madonna broke the local law, a little more than what Hank did in the land of free speech! Madonna doing the same thing in the USA (except stomping on the Cross) wouldn't raise an eyebrow........but she didn't do it in the USA.
BTW you seemed to shy away from the Cross stomping in your first reply to my comment!
