    Default Depression on the horizon???

'John Anthony' mentioned in another thread that the rising gas prices & rising prices in everything else could trigger a U.S. Depression.

    What say you???

As a PSC majore, with some economic industry background. I'd say it's possible we're in a recession. But not to the extent most people think of. When you say depression people think of the great depression. That's not likely to happen ever again. Foreign direct investment help keep the US from this problem. We also have post WWII leaders to thank for this, they developed a system, some what in the US's favor. To where a depression effects not just the US, but everyone dealing with us.

I'd say we're in a rut, things aren't going our way, but we're not even close to a depression.

I really don't care what the "experts" say, we are close to a depression in the RK household. When you have to decide if you are going to spend $4 for a gallon of gas or $4 for a gallon of milk.....things are bad!!!!!!

Things are bad but I agree with SportsFan41. We are nowhere near a depression and will never be at the "great depression" level again. A recession and a rut, yes. Depression, not hardly.

One of my favorite Ronald Reagan quotes “A Recession in when you neighbor loses their job; a Depression is when you lose your job”.

Thank you Nancy Pelosi & the Democrats in congress as well as GW Bush & the Republicans for doing everything they could to fix this. Pelosi told us 2 years ago that if we elected a democratic congress, they would fix it. WHAT A GREAT JOB!!! New record prices for gas. Why didn't we elect you sooner?!?

(NOTE: The above mentioned may be slightly sarcastic in tone. If you didn't pick that up, then this footnote is for you!)

It has to get better. I feel bad for PH because he finally gets to drive and we don't dare go out for a long rides. I remember when the kids were young, we would go out for long Sat drives....now, there would be no way.

I have had a full tank of gas in my car for three months. It is still sitting on full. The van is little under half and has been like that for two months. We have really learned to get what we need when we are out and not worry about anything else for the rest of the month.

We had just gotten to the point of living comfortable, now, we are back to living on a shoe string. I can not believe how much one can spend on groceries now

Where we are really noticing it is in his health care. This time last year, we could get his supplies for his pressure sores, colostomy care, etc....after insurance....for around 100 a month. Now, after insurance, we are paying right at 400 a month. I was told from his supplier that it was due to gas prices. It is really getting crazy.

PH and I do not complain about this stuff a whole lot. We are just thankful that we have a roof over our heads and that we don't have to worry about that.....trust me, it was not that long ago when we were really scared about that!!!!

I am not going to complain either because I feel we have been so blessed. It just makes me sick when I see the price of everything. We wanted to do something big for our wedding anniversary but with my illness and the price of everything I'm not sure what we will end up being able to do. I've already got a peek of what I will have to pay for my surgery after my insurance pays and it doesn't look good. Oh, it won't be a mountain load but it will be more than I had planned on spending. But you can't put a price on your health, so I will just have to make monthly payments.

I think this makes me as mad as anything. My two nephews, one goes to UK and the other to Western, aren't going back to college next year. They both have a job and will continue with that, but they are going to a community college or a tech. college. They say that it is just so darn expensive and that they just can't afford it. They also know that their parents are working two jobs now to help them and they just don't want to put their parents through much more.
