Default Best hiking or walking trails in your part of KY

Where are the best hiking or walking trails in Kentucky? I might just hop in the car with my dog and head that way some weekend this fall.

Bernheim has a number of trails of varying length and difficulty. It's really beautiful up there, and I don't get there enough, despite it being 15 minutes away.

    Some of my favorites are
    Natural Bridge
Red River Gorge has many many great trails
Berea has one that was great. I can't remember the name of it but it wasn't too far past the college.
Shaker town has a nice one that leads to the Palasides of the Kentucky River
Ravens Run is also nice. It is in Lexington

I hiked in General Butler State park today, as it is only a 20 minute drive from my house. There are three trails. I had walked the Lake Trail many times. There is a small portion of it that would be considered more of a hike. However, today I started out on the Fossil trail and then switched to (and completed) the Woodland trail. Even though the Fossil trail was longer, I probably would have been better off hiking it, as the Woodland trail had a lot of elevation changes. All in all, it was a great day. I lost count of the number of deer that I saw, along with five turkeys. My dog enjoyed the hike. She is completely worn out now, napping on the couch.

Jim, I am planning to head to Bernheim for Labor Day weekend. Great idea!

Plato, I checked Shakertown out, as it sounded really interesting, but they don't allow dogs on the trails, so that's a no for me. I may check into some others on your list, too.

The Millennium Trail is the biggie, at 13.3 miles around the perimeter of the park, with several elevation changes throughout as you trek along the knobs.

I'm probably not ready for that one yet, but it is certainly something to aspire to!

Berea's a great town. We just went there Friday night for our football game and I noticed a trail that ran in front of the high school and towards the college campus. I'll have to check into that one, too.
