Apology to Michael Phelps
I just want to say that I owe Michael Phelps an apology. I knew the guy was/is a beast but I just felt based off of every thing I'd seen/read over the past year and a half or so that he just wasn't dedicated to his craft and I felt like he wasn't even putting forth the effort you want from an Olympian representing your country. Boy was I wrong!!!! Phelps came through like an absolute stud and finished his career in a great great way while setting record all along the way. I followed Phelps progress or lack there of over the past 2 years and felt like I had a good grasp on the situation, I think I may have been bated a bit by the media but either way I doubted him.
Regardless I wanted to make my public apology to Phelps, I doubted, he proved me wrong and showed the world that he is absolutely without a doubt a WINNER. Going to be sad not to see him next time around but being the same age as him it's been nothing but a pleasure to watch grow and prove the doubters(myself included) wrong time and time again. So with that said, Michael Phelps I apologize for doubting that you wouldn't do what you always do and make the USA proud as hell.

I can't believe someone hated on Phelps. One of the coolest dudes around. And he can swim too.

I didn't hate on him, I just doubted him. I'm an Olympics enthusiast, LOVE the Olympics have watched them on DVR every day so I was following his progress and Phelps even admitted he hadn't trained as hard. I was just disappointed at his preparation and I felt like he wouldn't deliver but he proved me wrong and showed that when it's all on the line he knows how to win. Phelps winning the way he did in 08 created memories for me that will literally last a lifetime, glad I got to witness what he did.

No doubt.
I can honestly say I never doubted him and that I trusted that he would know what to do and how to do it when it was time to do it. I love Phelps. He's probably smoking a big old spliff right about now.

Haha...way to own it SF41 haha! I never doubted Phelps, might have been a little frustrated early, but what a great career and another solid Olympics. Crazy that your down Olympics is 4 gold medals.
I'm sure he won't, and I don't blame him, but I'd love to see him back in 2016 for relays only at least.

I am not a Phelps guy, still am not. I do not think he is a bad guy necessarily, but I would agree with your position that he was not as dedicated as he was 4 years earlier. He is just that great at what he does. You could tell he had no desire to suit up again after Beijing. He has already intimated about how much he dreaded getting in to the pool every day and relieved that it is over. And I do not blame him for that, swimming gets tiresome and monotonous. I think he was just pressured in to competing again by his family and sponsors so he obliged. But it has shown the past 4 years. He is just too goofy for me.

Thanks and I was thinking the exact same thing about relays. I'm just selfish and don't want to see his career end even though it's not like he has anything else left to prove I just love watching him compete, I think that's why I let myself get frustrated with him early on. I just figured he'd already put it on cruise control but he certainly proved otherwise.
