Someone needs to seriously explain to me how handball isn't infinitely more popular than soccer...

So am I the only person that thinks Phelps is going to be a bit of a bust/flop in this Olympics? I mean I can see him winning 1-2 events but I don't think we will see any thing like the last Olympics. Was telling a buddy of mine he hasn't seemed hungry sense Beijing. I almost wonder if to an extent he stayed competitive long enough to qualify for the Olympics, get the endorsements, get payed and then ride off in to the sunset regardless of how he performs in London.

There's a poll on ESPN asking which would you rather win? A Pro Championship or An Olympic Gold Medal The poll is split 50/50 but I thought the most interesting thing was the georgraphic location of a lot of the votes. Seems like the areas that voted Pro Championships rather than Olympic gold are also areas that tend to be a lot more afluent/ethnicly oriented regions along the coasts.
Can you tell I'm bored at work?

My understanding is that prior to the 1980s, it was a lot more like soccer in that the pace of the game was a little more deliberate and scoring considerably less frequent. Think hockey goals frequent. What we see in the Olympics now is a relatively young version of the game. I don't know if that has anything to do with it, but that relative youth is probably at least a factor as to why it isn't more popular.

Watching the parents of the US gymnast while doing her routine was great. Looked like they were on a rollercoaster.

I love me some Olypics. I think I may take off two week for them the next time, nothing but Olypic action.

I thought it was funny as well and definitely looked like they were riding a coaster.
I felt awful for Jordan, sucks that she could not move on with her teammates when she will probably have one of the top 5-6 scores. I think that rule makes no sense. Felt even worse for her that she had to stand there and listen to Gabby and Aly talk about how this was their dream while waiting for her interview. Hopefully the girls can get her a gold Tuesday in the Team Competition.

^Agreed. Top 24 gymnasts should be allowed to compete for the All Around, not the 2 best from each team.
