    So in summary....

Appointments at the Dr. - Good
Appointments with a financial advisor - Good
Appointments for servicing a car - Good
Appointments for hair cuts - Bad
Reservations for dinner (if made online) - Bad

Simply wave at me as you go to the head of the line, shake your head and wonder why a guy, who might have the tech savvy to join you, would choose to stand in the lobby and wait his turn.

It's also about lost principles and values.
Again, they aren't going to the head of the line. They are reserving their spot in line. If you are already in line before I call ahead you go before me. Lets say you go in and put your name in and the wait is an hour. You leave and come back 45 mins later. Is that any different? The restaurants i have done it at give you a time you can be seated and they tell you to be at the restaurant about 15 mins before that time. It just means you don't have to spend an hour in a crowded lobby.

How can that be if you call ahead days in advance?

My time is no less valuable than theirs, and the advantage goes to the youngsters who have knowledge of the technology which gives them this advantage.
This is a BAD policy, and shame on businesses for offering it.

Even if I knew how to do it, out of common courtesy I would never check-in, in abstentia, but the youngsters think nothing of it, and consider it a way of their life.

Don't want to wait 20 minutes for a seat at Cracker Barrel??? Sign in on line.
To hell with those of us who do it the old fashion way and wait our turn.

If this is a wave of the future, then I'm glad that I will be checking out shortly, because I have no desire to live in such an impersonal world.
I had to adjust to the Great Clips check in app....because my rage wouldn't allow me to be civil when I walked in and waited, then got bumped....

I actually use it now, but only to prove I can load and use an app on my smart phone to my millennial kids.....

I'm really confused on the argument of valuing time. If you value your time so much why would you not schedule an appointment and risk having to sit there in a lobby most likely being quite unproductive? Seems like it would make more sense to schedule an appointment and do something productive with your valuable time until said appointment. But that's just me.

Your not getting bumped. Anyone that checked in before you got there is in line ahead of you. Anyone that checks in after you arrived is in line behind you.

Also, although I do not go to great clips I have been before. When you walk in and haven't checked in, if there are no names on the screen when you check in you are next in line regardless. If there are names on the screen before you it either means somebody else is in the lobby waiting or has checked in online. I don't know their exact rules of somebody checking in and not showing up but nobody ever jumps ahead of you in line if your name is next.

You kind of missed my point, but I'll own it for clarity sake....

Prior to me being forced into using the app, I would do exactly what @Mustang did...drive up, walk in, check in, sit down and wait my "turn"....but then the app happened, and I wasn't a part of the ability to be able to make my "turn" happen sooner....

The real point of my post was that I actually loaded an app and use it regularly...but only for Great Clips....and only because places like Great Clips have ruined barber shops...which is where all the good stories and community engagement use to happen...

Summary: I gave up and gave in...now I get a true sense of entitlement when I am already checked in before I walk in...

Not sure about Great Clips but we take my son to Sport Clips. If someone checks in online or even comes in, checks in, then leaves, their spot is reserved for when they return. Meaning if they are ahead of you but aren't there when it's their turn, you get to go. Whenever they come back they are first in line. I just don't know how long they keep you on the list.
