As far as intimidating rides go, we can all agree that Son of Beast was the most intimidating ride in KI history. Maybe in all of roller coaster history. That ride scared the living hell out of me.

I wouldn't put it on the same level as the Beast. Not even close. The Beast is the GOAT.

It is but the Vortex was number 2 for decades. I went to KI in the 90’s as well, I’m old.

    Iím a thrill ride fanatic.

This is the first ďbigĒ coaster I can remember riding.

Hate to see it go but itís probably for the best. That thing really beats your brains out.

I loved this ride, but I haven’t been to KI in close to 20 years. Crazy how time flies.

Vortex has always been a neck snapper. I won't miss it at all.

I'm curious to know what they have planned for the space that the Vortex occupied. It's in the Coney Mall area of the park, which is essentially the heart of things in terms of the park's layout, and it's additionally in kind of a prime spot being located so close to The Beast. The Vortex occupies about 5-1/4 acres of real estate, which is nothing compared to The Beast's 35 acre footprint, but regardless, I know from experience doing construction work for Kings Island that they have plans for the next ride started LONG before they consider closing any existing ride.

I got to ride the Son of the Beast when it had the loop in it. You talk about intimidating for sure. I might be wrong but I believe it was the only wooden coaster to ever have a loop it.
