Page 3 of We're headed that way at the end of March. We're looking for one of the closer beaches to NKY, like Destin. Suggestions?... 81 comments | 2799 Views | Go to page 1 →

I love Destin any time of the year! Once we were there for Christmas and my crazy kids still went in the water! We usually go in March or April time frame, what ever coincides with Easter. Even if the water is cooler, it's still great to be at the beach! Find a hotel with a heated outdoor pool so you can get your swimming fix there, and still have fun playing at the beach.

Definitely need to go past Daytona, Orlando or Tampa where it is nice and warm and you can swim.

We do the reverse coming home.
Do you like Clearwater? I'm going there this summer.

    I've seen Randy drive.

12 hours puts San Diego County in play.

As far as the panhandle goes you obviously have Destin which I'm not big on - way too crowded for ol' Clyde. 2 hours east is a quiet little beach called Mexico Beach. Really quiet. If you go west of Destin you get over towards Alabama and they have the same nice beaches. We stayed in Perdido Key which is right on the state line. Nice area. Cross the state line and you have some nice Bama beaches as well. About the same drive as you have to Destin. It's also close to Pensacola if you want a city to visit.
Stayed in Perdido Key a couple years ago. Camped. Almost od'd on awesome.

I go down just about every month. Got about a year left, then I'll be hanging in St Pete with the ole swamprat full time.

Not Disney, but maybe Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure if I decide I want to spend that much money.

The Gulf Shores, AL area is really nice and more of a poor mans Destin. I say that meaning it is smaller and would be less crowded that time of year. Beaches are virtually the same. This would be Ft Morgan, Orange Beach, Perdido Key areas.
