I do recommend reservations. My guess you were there for the second seating. We usually just belly up up to the bar.
When we went to the Knotty Pine with the RTS's, the place was not busy at all. It was the weekend after Thanksgiving, so that may have made a difference.

Mrs. S and I try not to eat out on Friday or Saturday nights, if we can get around it. Especially popular places. Thursday's can be a pain, too. We try to make Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday our restaurant nights.

Same with us and we seldom do reservations. We just hang till the bar seats open up.
Avoid Knotty on a Tuesday during crawfish season if you don't like to wait. Always jam packed.
Also a lot of restaurants offer deals early in the week. Dee Felice has half price wine, apps and pasta dishes on Monday, Knotty pine has wine down Wednesdays. Mitchells and Celestial have great happy hours if you eat early.

Chipotle for lunch. I average chipotle 5 times a week between lunch or dinner just depends. You could say I am obsessed.

BOGO steaks at Tumbleweed with friends. It's not gourmet, but it's solid and they do the steaks right every single time. Chips and salsa, big salad, big potato and 6-ounce sirloin. Two of us eat for $7.15 apiece.

Ate lunch at outback. Mom had coconut shrimp and salad. Son had steak, baked potato and asparagus. I had the loaded fries. Blooming onion to start the meal was very good. Mom and son liked theirs. My loaded fries were fair.

TAC, I agree with you. If we go out on Friday or Saturday to eat, it is about 4:00 to beat the crowds. My main rule is I won't wait more that 15 minutes for a table. Going early means no wasted time! On vacation, we go eat midafternoon to beat the crowds and get out of the sun during the heat of the day, then have some leftovers to eat later when we get hungry. Plus, the beach is pretty much our own in the late afternoon!

Went to Red Robin for their free burger deal for teachers and the place was woefully understaffed and overcrowded. People were standing outside waiting. When we checked in it was a 40 minute wait. We went over to the bar and asked the bartender if we could order food if we sat at the bar and had some beer. She said yes, so we got some beer and ordered. Our food was to us in 5 minutes! There were tables in the bar area that were never filled while we were there. That was a big scheduling error by the manager for not having the help available that night.
It's all about using your time to your advantage, not theirs. I can't understand why people wait 30+ minutes to spend their money at a restaurant unless it's a special occasion.

Went to Grandview tavern last night. I booked on Open table for an outside table. I got there and the hostess tells me that I can't book a table for outside. They don't allow to pre book outside tables, only first come first served. Felt like I was on a Seinfeld episode. Later Spoke with the owner, who I know, and she said someone had messed with their account and allowed that option on the site. She immediately corrected it. I had not ever seen that option for seating preference before on the site. No issues getting a seat on the patio but it was funny to them react that I had booked it.

Dinner was great, 4 of us split oysters Rockefeller, lettuce wraps, Ahi tuna. Dinner I had the Gnocchi. We headed out to find desert somewhere, looked to get onto 75 south and it was backed up. Headed north and decided to stop by Sotto. It was 9:30 and the place was still packed. Sat at the bar and ordered a drink and those little donut things they have. Pure heaven.

Something I have noticed lately. Wife and I rarely eat out in a restaurant anymore, but we do order carryout from some of our favorite places fairly regular.

It seems that the places we really like when we had time to go in and eat, cant do carryout to save their life. Wrong stuff, don't get everything we order, stuff isnt made the same way as it is when dining in. I cant for the life of me understand why they cant get it together for carry out, rarely any issues when dining in at those places.

Good for you. I am taking care of my 90 year old mother. Blessed to still have her.

McDonald's buttermilk fried chicken sandwich. Best fried chicken sandwich I have eaten much better than Wendy's.

Health reasons has hampeted what hubby and I have been able to do but we both are hanging in there. We both go back to Cleveland Clinic in July.

Cleveland has some nice restaurants. We have eaten at both Michael Symons restaurants. Both located on a really neat cobble stone street in downtown Cleveland, all with outside patios.

My favorite restaurant is The Winking Lizzard. Have you eaten at any of these.
