Me, too. I found some articles that have conflicting information inside their own article. I'll try again when I have more time.

Yes, it's a vicious, unpredictable species of dog that kills children.

So we should probably put a bounty on the "breed" and kill em all? Right?

I've been checking the local shelters looking for a dog and it seems like the majority available are some type of pit bull mix. Guess I won't be getting a dog from the county shelter.

We had this discussion a few months back and I said in the majority of cases I blame the owners. Either 1) you failed to do enough research into your breed of dog before hand or 2) you are simply guilty of negligence. If you have a pit bull it is your responsibility to do everything in your power to avoid situations from happening. Don't let your dog around children. Both kids and dogs are possessive, this is a horrible mix. Don't try it. Dogs and pits specifically are simply relying on their instincts. These instincts are very well documented. I'm sorry but in nearly all cases I blame the owners for not taking all precautions necessary. Yes Pits are very aggressive but they can also be some of the sweetest dogs you'll ever meet. It is the owners responsibility to never give the dog an opportunity or chance to act on their instincts.

What ever happened to Dobermans and German Shepard's?
They used to be the 'tough' breeds when I was young. I guess Dobermans were too loyal to only one person and German Shephards can't be cool because cops use them?

Check out the Stray Animal Adoption Program (SAAP). They have rescue dogs of every breed and mix. They are from your neck of the woods.

If you're wanting to adopt, the rescue I volunteer with has plenty looking for homes
