I've never taken it, but heard they typically never check to see if you bought a ticket. Can anyone verify?

I haven't ridden it, but that model isn't unique to Cincinnati. Public transportation in other cities that do that too.

The handful of times I've used it, we've not been checked. I know others who have been checked multiple times. It seems random, but when the fine is $100 if you don't have a ticket, doesn't seem worth risking to me.

I knew something was up when I walking to my car after work last night. I saw two double stretch Metro buses staging on 2nd Street. I cracked a smile when I saw the route number on the buses - "100 Streetcar".

The street car is just very confusing for other drivers. I am surprised it does not get hit more often. It will often make a turn to the left from the far right lane in front of cars in lanes left of the streetcar...just crazy. If you are not familiar with driving downtown with the streetcar, I can see how you would be shocked that all of a sudden this monstrosity comes out of an area that you just are not expecting. EVERYTHING about the streetcar is just stupid and most people knew it was stupid BEFORE the nonsense started. I saw one doing the left turn deal in front of GABP last week and it had zero passengers in it...

    And more streetcar news:

Streetcar failures will persist with cold weather, transit authority says - WCPO Cincinnati, OH

CINCINNATI -- The city should expect continued streetcar failures as freezing weather persists, according to a letter from the transit authority.
The Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority -- which oversees streetcar operations -- said in a letter Thursday evening, "Until vehicle redesigns and field modifications that are successfully implemented, streetcar vehicle failures will continue to impact reliable service during freezing weather conditions."

One of the problems comes from the vehicles' air compressors, the letter said, which suffer from frozen valves and blown pistons, among other issues. This poses a safety concern.

Often, though, the freezing cold causes multiple issues in various combinations, making preparing for repair and maintenance difficult, SORTA said. This impacts reliability and, in turn, will impact ridership, which has already proven to be down during the winter months.

I don't even comment on it any more but if I run across an article in the news, I always add it.

OK, which group of street car geniuses didn't think it would get pretty cold in Cincy area during winter? This is a circus without a tent.

Maybe it can run during the 4th of July. Sounds like that's the only type of weather it's built for.
