My debit card has a daily limit on withdrawals and purchases. I think it’s $500 for each. So I’m not terribly worried about someone wiping me out. Quite honestly, I so rarely use my debit card anymore, I typically don’t even carry it. I don’t have any fear or concerns about using it though, although I would never use it to make online purchases.

Except if it's fraud you get your money back. Debit cards have the same protection as credit cards. I had someone get my debit card number a few years ago. They were in England, bought over $2000 worth of stuff. Had the money back in my account the next day.

Yep. There's a little something called the FDIC. So unless you have over $250K in your checking account, there is zero risk of losing any of your money with debit cards.

We値l just have to agree to disagree. I知 never a fan of telling other people how to spend or manage their money.

I was thinking the same thing I just didn’t have first hand experience with it happening so I didn’t know how easy it was to recover the money in your account. Sounds pretty painless.

Depending on where we go to vacation I値l just give a call to the bank to let them know I知 going to be gone. But we make a trip to Disney every year and the way it is now everything is set up through your magic band and it痴 attached your debit/credit card. It痴 accepted everywhere. I致e left my wallet in the safe the last 2 trips. Everything down to tipping the cart girl when I play golf down there can be done through the magic band. I think I prefer plastic over cash for the convenience aspect.

Until you dispute the charges with your financial institution and get the money back...

Who gives you your money back when someone steals your cash?

Just did a dispute for a member. We give provisional credit for the amount(s) disputed. Our Fraud department will look into the case and if it is indeed fraud, the member already has their money back. If it turns out it's not fraudulent, we'll take the provisional credit back.

Long story short, if someone steals your plastic or uses it fraudulently, you get the money back. You don't get cash back.

But to take my cash, they'll have to mug me. And if they try to mug me, that's when my street fighting skills take over and I'm in the clear.

Did you have your account closed? Once they have access to your account they can get to it anytime unless you close the account.

No and your batting average in this thread isn't very good. Getting your debit card number does not give access to the account, only the card. That's fixed by canceling the card.

Debit card is linked to a bank account right? That link can be pulled during the transaction (depending on what info is being retained by the person committing the fraud.)

False. Once a debit card is blocked, there is no more link to the bank account.

What if it’s winter time and you can’t put your arms down to fight? Call Ralphie for backup?
