Funny thing about Montoyas we had always heard how good it was. So we went a couple of months ago. Wasn't good. Couple of days later mentioned to person at work who lives in that area and calls on restaurants that we went there. She told me that since ownership had changed it wasn't the same

Well I was just giving you a hard time more than anything. Personal taste is personal taste. All the same, if you've only been there once, I would bet you were there on a bad night or something, like you said. I've been there probably a dozen times or more, and it's been very good every time I've been.

Rio Grande (Newport) is just as good as anything Mexican wise as I've had for the price really anywhere I've went. It's always packed. Abuelos give you a bit more options and is a bit more... skilled? presentation wise. But you pay for the environment. It's a nicer place and you pay the $4-$6 bucks more per dish for it. Chuys, as mentioned, has good sauces, salsas and quesos. It's a bit more Tex Mex than the others. But at the end of the day, it's a chain restaurant. It's Applebees of Mexican restaurants in my opinion. That's not a huge knock, I eat Applebees (and Chuy's) occasionally. But if you're looking for something different it wouldn't be my pick. My opinion...

It's all the same crap to me.
That being stated, ate at the one in village green in Alexandria last night. Not too bad.

My girlfriend makes me take her to Rio about once a week. It's great food and between me and her I usually end up paying about 18 bucks with tip between us.

Had Abuelo's again last night. Really like this place. Food is better slightly better than other places mentioned, and it is a bit more expensive as well. Great sauces, great service (which can be hit and miss at Mexican places in my experience).

Rio Grande is good, but less enchilada sauce options.

A new place just opened in Florence. I've only been there once, but it's a small chain and I had been in one in Louisville before. Can't remember the name. Big portions, good chips and salsa, overall pretty good and pretty cheap.

Sorry I missed this thread. Probabaly too late now.

El Toro in Walton is very good. The old Camino Real on 42 in Florence is also good & close to the airport.

There are a couple places in Hebron that aren't bad & are super close to the airport but I'm having a hard time coming up with the names.

Im guessing you've alresdy been here & gone, so where did you end up?

Rio Grande in Newport is my favorite by far. I used to go once weekly; now about every other week. Best Mexican food and service for the cost in the area.

I know I am late getting this in as far as LRCW is concerned..but I have been to Mi Tierra's twice and had the worst service both times. Food was ok. I am a fan of Montoyas. Most recently, we have gone to Cancun's at Buttermilk Crossing. Also very good.
I would have to say my favorite was El Coyote. I hated it when they closed.

Rio Grande in Newport for me and it's not even close. We will order fajitas for two to go and we eat on this for at least three meals. The amount of food you get is ridiculous.
