The course layout and design is pretty solid, so if they are just maintaining the course just halfway decent it should be a good experience.
Thanks for the input. I'll give an update after the weekend.

Now for the rant part. They spent all of that money on the parking lot and failed to kill one dandelion, failed to cut any rough, but did put in a new set of stairs to the never used driving range.
Who is running that place now??
Davey Tree Service has been running the place for a couple of years and I use that term loosely.

Played the course earlier in the year and rough was really overgrown and place was a safe haven for dandelions! Hoping they start putting some money into the course now that they have a new parking lot.

I have played Hickory Sticks the past couple of weeks and course is in really good shape. Rough isn't too penal and greens were in really good shape.

Won my golf league night last night. Had...hold on to your hats...four of us playing. That really is disgusting that we can't get people to come play. I won a whole $8.00. If anyone has any suggestions on how to get more guys to play let me know. The golfers are there, just don't play league.

Falls of Rough golf course is in pretty terrible shape. However, the cabins were in very good shape and a good setup overall. I think there was one guy running the whole place. He was extremely nice but I don't know how he can keep that place running.

    Hate to hear that.

No way in the world one guy can.

I didn't see any one else working besides him and the lady behind the cash register. We didn't see one maintenance person in the two days we were there. And we saw him down at the on-site "driving range" hand picking up golf balls and putting them in a bucket. I honestly felt bad for the guy. I would imagine they have to hire someone to cut the grass but we did not see it and it was definitely overdo. We were also told they do not change the water coolers out until mid week every week which I found strange and pretty gross.

Wow if you have to pick up driving range balls by hand its time to cut your losses.

Yeah it was tough but honestly it was some of the best customer service you could ask for. Unfortunately the course was just not matching the service.

That's what I'm saying...he MAY be doing it himself, but there is no way he CAN do it and survive. I have been to "one man" operations a time or two, one of them a farmer basically mowed some fairways in his farm and "built" some greens at the end of them, and made his own course...and he did everything. Even with the cheapest, lowest form of golf facility, he worked his tail off. Don't know if the course is still there or not. If they are trying to run FOR like that, won't be long before they close again. Nobody wants to go out of the way for that. And I assume they are still asking a top tier price to play? Hopefully not.

Oh ok I misunderstood what you were saying. Actually price was extremely cheap. We had a groupon but overall I paid right around $100 for two nights stay and 3 rounds of golf. So we had 8 guys there so they got about $800 for our group for a weekend.

Well at least you got it cheap, but I wonder what they charge sans Groupon?

I believe it was going to be quite a bit more around $300 range per person. We just assumed they were starving for business with giving such a big discount.

I played Saturday at Danville CC. I hadn't been there in quite some time. The place is awesome. Beautiful clubhouse, great staff and the golf course is terrific. They've put in a bluegrass/burmuda mix in their fairways and they are going to be awesome in a couple of years.
As for my golf game; it wasn't too bad. Hit some good shots and made some putts. Iron game was a little shaky, but better than expected.
    Shot somewhere around 78.
