Was looking at the go fund me pages this morning, calculating the bumper sticker and t-shirt sales proceeds and thinking about what his hospital bills and funeral cost - I want to weep again.

There is the emotional devastation of losing your child or sibling and that will manifest itself for years to come. Consider the financial impact on a family with six surviving children on let's assume is median income. I know my family would be ill-prepared - we carry small life insurance policies on each kid but those would barely cover the funeral and burial/cremation. Making me re-evaluate some things today.

I would be interested in knowing the condition of Mr Hester (the driver of the other veh. I believe that is his name). He was an innocent victim of this accident also and was hurt pretty bad also. I also pray for him and his family.

His name is Phil Hester. Conner '82.

Last I heard he broke his leg, had a crushed ankle, and required multiple surgeries and will have lots of rehab in front of him. Really good dude.

How is the other young man that is still in critical condition. Any hopeful news to report?

Not too hopeful.....his mom posted on social media that he had developed pneumonia and a fever, is combative when he comes off sedation. Hoping he can overcome all his injuries - this has been tragic enough.

Thoughts and prayers to the Hester family as well, of course. Cooper has not forgotten him.

Thinking about Travis's mom today. Hope she is surrounded by loved ones and can somehow find some peace and comfort.

I was thinking of her too.
My in-laws lost their first son to leukemia on Christmas Day when he was 5. I asked Dad how he ever got out of bed after that and he said you have to because you have other kids. Still not convinced I could.
I'm sure she's stronger than me and I hope she feels Travis' love today somehow more than his loss.

My son surprised me and came
home from college today. He was going to stay and work commencement next weekend but they did t need him to stay. So he just got home at midnight tonight and Travis' sister who he graduated with last year is over here to see him and I must say she is doing great.

    Such a wonderfully nice girl.

Learned tonight that the four remaining "dart wars" teams at Cooper called a truce and donated the kitty to the family. Nice gesture.

(Did not know there was a "kitty" so now the kids and I will be having a talk about THAT.)

Andrew's mother has posted to Facebook that he is not progressing and in fact, is "back to where we started"....both lungs had collapsed, he is back on ventilator and in a medically-induced coma again. PNC banks are all set up to take donations for his medical expenses, which after 25 days in ICU must be - well, I don't even want to hazard a guess. Fundraising efforts continue in the school and the community. Chipotle on Mall Road yesterday gave 20% of all their sales to a fund supporting all four families. Gold Star did a similar thing last week. The school put together a staff vs. students basketball game with a bake sale and silent auction on Friday night last week.

I have reached out to the Hester family and were told he is in a rehab facility for as much as 4 months. His family has no current need as they have a good support system in place through extended family and their church.

I believe the Skyline in Union and the one in Burlington are donating a portion of their sales tonight to the cause. You can bet my family and I will be at the one in Union to do our part. #CooperStrong
