Based on what I have seen IMO the top team in KY 16U is the Louisville Magic. But that is only if the big freshman plays 16U.

I'm an eastern ky guy and I love Beverly ' s game. And I've watched him a ton. But there is no way that he has the skill level of Wright and Goodin. And that's not arguable. Honest opinion from an unbiased 3rd party.

The Travelers don't play in the state tourney because they usually have an EYBL stop that week end. Knowing Dre Mahorn and the coaching staff of the Travelers, there isn't a team in this state they're "afraid" to play, for those indirectly implying that.

Nothing against the other teams in the state, but I'll take an EYBL stop where there is much more exposure and competition over a state tournament that means nothing in the long run.

But back to the topic, I just believe you cant put the travelers in the conversation with Ky teams because none of these teams get to play them. Who wouldn't want to see these top 5 programs go head to head? It would be a show!!!
    Carson Williams???

What happened to the Travelers 16U that they are now the 4th best team in the state for that age group?

I thought I heard that group was supposed to be loaded?

Several kids that are very nice players. Personally, I think Wright has the highest upside and will have the best college career. He's the most athletic, most explosive and has a nice stroke.

I can't disagree with Beverky having played the best over the past 2 years. He's a pleasure to watch. Great, great PG that has a great feel for the game. Knows when to pass and when to score. He's also worked hard to improve his shot.

After Wright, Beverly and Goodin, throw in Carson Williams. Those are your top 4. Beyond that, you can make arguments for 10 or so kids depending on personal preference.

I feel Wireman hit the nail by suggesting without watching teams and the teams they are playing against it is hard to rank teams that rarely even have common opponents. Unless they play each other or are in the same event it just has too many variables than won/lost records or tournament placements.

The 16U Travelers likely dropped by starting the season 1-2. Interestingly besides losing in OT to a team from Mississippi, they also lost to Team United (NC) in a close game until the end which Team United pulled out to a 10 point win. Thsi was the same Team United that while in KnoxVegas played both WKY Elite and Louisville Magic. So at least there is a common opponent for those three. Comparing scores is not an absolute read, but I recall Team United beat WKY ELite by about 8 and Louisville Magic by 18. About the only thing you can say is Team United seems to be better than the Top KY 16U teams.

Are there better players in KY in the 2016 class? Maybe, maybe not. But Braxton has performed much better and much more consistently on the biggest stage for the longest period of time, and that isn't arguable.

Based on production to this point, there is no debate.
Just because the Travelers were able to secure Braxton's services doesn't make Braxton the best player of the 2016 and Braxton is my second or third favorite 2016 player. If the Travelers were able to secure Eli Wright or Quentin Goodin's services there is no doubt in my mind that everything being said about Braxton right now would be being said about Q or Eli. And there's nothing wrong with that but let's be real at the same time.

Out of those 3, Beverly is the only one that didn't run from the top League in the World. That alone gets him props in my book.... And who cares who the best team/player is?!?! They are all good! KY AAU basketball is at an all time high right now. Why don't we just celebrate that...

Didn't run from the top league in the world? The EYBL is better than the NBA now? Never knew that. I need to hit KBA up this weekend. I can see NBA level games for a 30.00 weekend pass.

Quentin played EYBL last year and chose to return to Hoop Dreams this year and finish where he started. Eli could easily start and be the best player on the Travelers if he chose to but he declined their numerous offers. The Travelers tried again after Hampton EYBL to pick up Eli. He declined again.

EYBL is not the be all and end all in AAU. While they undoubtedly offer exposure and competition, there are elite level players in all 3 of the major shoe leagues.

I agree with your statement that AAU basketball in Kentucky is at an all time high and should be celebrated.

Rivalries amongst programs are fun (for me anyway) but at the end of the day I want every Kentucky kid who is capable of playing D1 to go D1. I just like the ones who are wearing Hoop Dreams jerseys more.

I agree with everything said by Coach Q with one slight exception. We agree that anyone in this game should be first and foremost helping kids play at the next level whatever that level might be for each individual kid. The kids from KY are not competing for scholarships among just themselves, they are competing versus kids from all over the world. We should cheer for all the KY kids who emerge somewhere down the line bettering themselves and hope they return to the commonwealth and start giving back when they reach that age to do so.

I also agree that players can get exposure from each of the shoe companies leagues and also other grassroots events. Some more than others, but if you are good enough and play well in high school you will be seen.

Now the exception I have with your statement, Eli is a great player with as much potential as anyone in the state. Would he start or be one of the better players on any team in the state...the answer is likely yes. But he was not asked after Hampton EYBL to join the Travelers. While I do not doubt you were told that, whomever did so misled you likely in an intentional way. One guy whom I know you respect makes playing offers in The Travelers program. I can assure you he did not make any such effort because he is loyal to his kids on his roster. If he did not speak to Eli directly, no such offer was made. Suggesting otherwise is not fair to those kids who play on both teams. There are people in the state who stir the pot to cause trouble because they have nothing better to do and the person telling you that may just be one of those people.

The EYBL is the best youth basketball league in the world, without question. Comparing other circuits/leagues to it is like comparing AA baseball to the major leagues.

Braxton wanted the challenge, even as a freshman. He has performed with consistent excellence in the EYBL from his first game on. Simply put, he's the only 2016 in KY who has consistently measured himself against the best and proven he belongs.

Carson Williams played well last year from what I understand, and I know he's injured right now. He seems to do very well, and has just been derailed a little bit by injuries.

Could other KY players compete and hold their own in the EYBL? Quite possibly, but that's just speculation at this point.

Just because a kid doesn't play for the Travelers doesn't mean that kid can't cut it in the EYBL.

Never said he could or couldn't...simply said that we don't know.
