ELLIOTT COUNTY Coach Greg Adkins certainly knows the way to Rupp Arena.... Read More → 3rd Region Boys Basketball Preview

By ApolloFan98 - Ranking the 3rd Region in the preseason is a tall task. Outside Breckenridge County, every team that had winning seasons last year, lost nearly all of its offensive production to graduation or transfer. Also, these rankings are dependent on the kids that have transferred within the region getting eligible. Odds are they will be able to play. All of the other uncertainty should make for an exciting regular season. It will be interesting to see which players take the next step in bigger roles for their teams this season. 1. Breckenridge County Tigers - Coach Patrick Critchelow Last Season... Read More →

Class 5A Notebook (11/6): Top seeds hold serve

By DevilMayCare - Not much to sweat about in the First Round Ninety-nine times out of a hundred, you expect one seeds to take care of business in the First Round. But the opening slate of games in 5A this year were especially lopsided, most of them decided by halftime. Six of the seven 1v4 games (Anderson County had a bye) reached mercy rule status. The only game that didn't was Harlan County over South Laurel, and that one was never really in doubt. All told, the 1's hammered the 4's by an aggregate score of 344-54 (an average of 49-8). In fact, five of the eight 2v3 games were decided by three scores or... Read More →

By TheDeuce - With one week of playoff match ups in the books, we'll (hopefully) start seeing more competitive games going forward for the remainder of the playoffs. No big upsets across the state, as was expected, and the same was true right here in our region. Just in the Louisville Power Rankings, the teams won by an average margin of 48-3. This week, we'll have two games that pit teams in our rankings against each other, Saint Xavier versus Butler and Male versus North Hardin. Four teams will be on the road this week. 1. 6A Saint Xavier (8-3) - Last Week: Defeated 6A Ohio County 68-0. This Week:... Read More → 12th Region Boys Basketball Preview

By TDC - The 2017-18 season featured some high-powered offensive talent across the 12th Region, led by Mercer County’s Mr. Basketball, Trevon Faulkner. Mercer, Pulaski, Somerset, Boyle and West Jessamine all spent time in various state top 25 polls during the season, and all were capable of putting up a lot of points on any given night. It was Southwestern, however, who controlled pace in the Regional Tournament with a disciplined offense and a stifling defense, holding Region favorites Mercer and Pulaski to nearly 30 points below their season average in the semifinals and finals, to punch their... Class 2A Notebook: Chalk It Up, Danville Only Lower Seed To Win in Round 1

By ATLCat - Home Sweet Home Of the sixteen First Round playoff games in Class 2A, all but one of them were eventually won by the higher seeded team hosting the game. Danville was the lone team to take their show on the road and pull an "upset" in terms of seeding, though you would be hard-pressed to find anyone who did not expect the Admirals to leave Round 1 victorious. Danville now earns the right to seek revenge against District Champion Somerset. The Briarjumpers won a hard fought game 21-10 against the Admirals earlier this season on Danville's homefield. If the Ads are up to the challenge or... Read More → 7th Region Boys Basketball Preview

By Smallhoops - Will this be the season someone other than Trinity or Ballard wins the Seventh Region? Perhaps. The Male Bulldogs return a heralded junior class and have an enthusiastic new coach in Tim Haworth. Seneca and Waggener return most of their rosters, have outstanding senior players, and are expected to have great seasons. But as the season approaches, Trinity and Ballard again top the Seventh Region pre-season rankings. Trinity boasts University of Louisville commit David Johnson plus outstanding shooter Stan Turnier, while Ballard will look to Alex Holley and newcomer Walter Johnson to... Read More →

Region 1 Trinity hosted Muhlenberg County in round one. The Shamrocks did’t have much trouble at all in this contest, cruising to a 69-0 win. Trinity got some good news as running back Luke McGuire played in this game. He could be key for the Shamrocks to make a run for the title. McCracken County would welcome Jeffersontown for their 1st round matchup. McCracken County would also have no problem in the contest. They would win the game... Read More →

3A Notebook: West and Wandale but Room for Just One "W" in the Playoffs

By gchs_uk9 - Two Late Picks Seal a Classic for Lawrence County Most expected Western Hills at Lawrence County to be one of the best first round games in the Class 3A playoffs. Ninth-ranked Western Hills and recent Kentucky commit Wandale Robinson were slight favorites over a Lawrence County club that has spent most of the season just outside the top ten and has a superstar in their own in quarterback Noah West. No one expected what ultimately took place in Louisa on Friday night: a 78-74 Lawrence County victory that ranks as one of the most exciting games in Kentucky high school football history. ... By DragonFire - 2017-18 was another banner season for the 4th Region. Warren Central represented the region with a state semifinal finish, which followed Bowling Green’s state title the season before. Owing mostly to Bowling Green’s four year run, the region has now placed a team in the state semifinals four out of the last five seasons. Eleven of the region’s seventeen teams had a winning record a season ago, though only three finished with more than twenty wins. As usual, the 14th District representatives will be favored in region play, and will look to add to their 17 year run as placing the region... Read More →
