By silo11 - Week Eight Review: Its all about Madisonville-North Hopkins and Webster County. Everyone else is far behind. Teams are getting closer, but not enough to pull down either team. Here are the week 8 rankings: 1. Madisonville North Hopkins – BGP #8 Season record: 18-3 The Maroons had an uncomfortable win at Lyon County 71-64, but easily defeated both Dawson Springs and Hopkins County Central to extend their winning streak to 7 games. They will have a tough matchup at Owensboro before heading to Union County to close out the week. 2. Webster County Season Record: 18-2 Read More →

8th Region Week 8 Review - A New Number One Rises to the Top

By ColonelMike - 8th Region Week 8 Review: A New Number One Rises to the Top By Colonelmike Wow. I thought Week 7 was exciting (and it was)…but Week 8 brought everyone new extremes of highs / lows / wins / losses / upsets / rallies / injuries and pretty much one of the biggest adrenaline rushes of the season so far. Among the news that defined this past week: • South Oldham bounced back from two close losses to #9 Collins and #13 Oldham County, putting the wrath of their offense to work….South scored 98, 95, and 89 points(!!) in three victorious routs this past week… • Grant County got a... Colton Fraley continues to lead the Maroons with Zach Travis, KJ Combs, Caleb Sloan, and Grant Oaks joining him as players averaging double figures in points. They face three regional opponents this week in Somerset, Rockcastle County, and East Jessamine. 2) Somerset (17-3) – Somerset defeated Gallatin County in the first round of the All A State Tournament but fell by 1 to eventual champion St. Henry in... 9th Region Week 8 Review

By PP1 - Prelude: Thinking about the bus crash a couple days ago and hearing of Kobe Bryant’s untimely death has a way of putting things in perspective. I understand that the driver of the vehicle involved in the Bus Accident has passed away and, as of this writing, the reports seem to indicate that Kobe Bryant’s daughter also perished in the helicopter accident. It serves as a reminder of what is truly important. Regional Rankings 1. Covington Catholic (18-3): The Colonels have a big week ahead of them. They play St. Xavier, Highlands, and Simon Kenton. 13th Region Week 8 Review

By Les - 1. South Laurel (16-4 overall, 10-2 vs. 13th Region opponents) Defense. That word sums up just how the Cardinals are getting things done this season. South Laurel possesses the best defensive play in the region and it showed during its wins over Harlan (74-60), Whitley County (51-38) and Bell County (57-52) this past week. 2. Clay County (12-6, 6-1) After capping off an impressive three-game stretch with wins over Jackson County, North Laurel and South Laurel, the Tigers followed suit with a 78-73 road loss to Pulaski County. 3. Knox Central (15-4, 4-0) The defending 13th Region... Read More →

3rd Region Week 8 Review - Devils Back On Top

By ApolloFan98 - 1. Owensboro Red Devils (13-7) UP 1 Owensboro climbs back to the top spot this week, after reeling off 4 straight 3rd region wins. They got road wins this past week over Grayson County and Daviess County with big games from Jaiden Greathouse and Amari Robinson Wales. Owensboro has a 6-1 record inside the region and haven’t even hit their stride yet. That could spell bad news for the rest of the region. The Devils will be tested this week with games against Madisonville and Evansville Bosse. 2. Breckenridge County Tigers (13-5) UP 1 The Tigers went 2-1 this past week, starting with a... Read More →

10th Region Week 8 Review: Colonels or Cardinals? Take Your Pick

By teeroy - 1. Bourbon County (18-4) - The Colonels, who lost at George Rogers Clark 77-65, still maintain the region's top spot, due to their strong resume that includes 4 wins over top 25 caliber teams, while George Rogers Clark only has one. Bourbon's big wins came earlier in the season against Henry Clay, Collins, Tates Creek, and Lexington Catholic. In the loss to George Rogers Clark, Bourbon County struggled without their top player, Amirion Joyce. Joyce was not allowed to play because he had been ejected in the 2A State finals game. Nakyir Joyce scored 28 points in the loss. The Colonels... Read More →

By silo11 - Week Eight Review: Murray was the star this week for region 1, making it to the semi-finals of the All A State Tournament, losing in overtime. They have shown they can be a cinderella team in region 1. Of course McCracken and Marshall both have more talent and are expected to be the teams to beat. Here is week 8review: 1. McCracken County – BGP #8 Season Record: 16-4 McCracken took a break this week from action and get rested up for the final push to the district and region tournaments. Sixth Region Week 8 Review: The Butler Bears Roar

By Smallhoops - The big news in the Sixth Region this week came Saturday night when the Butler Bears took down the previously undefeated Elizabethtown Panthers by a 89-68 margin. Quite a win for the Bears, and perhaps Butler is the best team in the region. I chose not to move them up in the rankings this week because Fern Creek, with wins over Moore and Seneca, certainly did nothing to take away from being ranked in the top spot. Fern Creek and Butler don't play each other until February 14, so I guess we'll just continue to watch some really good basketball being played in the Sixth Region and debate the... Read More →

Seventh Region Week 8 Review - Ballard and Male Are On A Collision Course

By Smallhoops - It is hard to escape the thought that Ballard and Male are the top two teams in the Seventh Region. But who is the better of the two? They played each other in the semi-finals of the LIT, with Ballard winning 71-58. That game had lots of people looking forward to the two playing each other again, which happens this coming Friday night at Male. And to make things even more exciting, if anything else is needed, it appears that Male's Howard Fleming will be back for the game. That one has the potential to be a classic. TEAM RANKINGS 1. Ballard Bruins (18-2) Rashad Bishop has... Read More →

By All State Baseball - 1) Hazard (16-3): The Bulldogs come up short in the All "A" State Tournament at EKU McBrayer Arena. Hazard traveled to Richmond this past week to participate in the All "A" State Tournament. The Bulldogs got things started off with a thrilling 42-39 win over Louisville Collegiate thanks to a buzzer beating 3. Hazard would move on to play Paintsville in the quarter-final and they wouldn't have a problem with the Tigers as they would roll past Paintsville 48-39. Hazard would move on to face St. Henry in the semi-finals of the All "A". This was a case of "tale of two halves" Hazard went toe to... Read More →

1st Region Week 7 Review

By silo11 - Week Seven Review: McCracken County dominated the number Tilghman further separating themselves from the rest of the region. Murray gets back on track and looks to continue to improve as does Marshall County. The last few weeks of the season should be good as team ready themselves for district and region tournaments. Here is week 7 review: 1. McCracken County – BGP #8 Season Record: 16-4 McCracken crushed Christian County 65-32 and then turned around and smacked Paducah Tilghman 58-39. The Mustangs have now won 9 straight games and seem to be getting stronger each week. In... Read More →
