Mr. Football Watchlist: Now that the dust has settled, where do we stand?

By DevilMayCare - With the state champions crowned this past weekend, all that remains of the 2019 season is to dole out All-State honors and select a Mr. Football or two. At this point, we can essentially whittle the list of realistic contenders down to the following: Beau Allen, Michael Mayer, Reese Smith, and Reed Lanter. To be honest, Lanter is probably a notch below the other three, but his senior season - and career as a whole - have earned him a spot in this post. Here are the final numbers on those four: Beau Allen (QB, Lexington Catholic) 2019 Season: 234/341 for 3,682 yards and 38 TDs/8... Read More →

BluegrassPreps.com 5th Region Week 1 Review

By SportsLife - 1. John Hardin (3-0): Preseason 5th Region favorite John Hardin opened the season 3-0, notching wins over Bryan Station, University Heights and Christian County. Through three games, Alex Matthews (24.7 ppg, 10.3 rpg) is averaging a double-double for the Bulldogs. His teammate, Trevon Harris (21.0 ppg, 9.3 rpg), is nearly averaging a double-double. 2. Bardstown (1-2): The Tigers managed to knock off Marion County 57-51 in a season opener but dropped back-to-back games to Scott County and Bowling Green. Scott County pulled away to beat Bardstown 57-49. Bowling Green won more comfortably... Read More →

8th Region Week 1 Review: Region 8 Stakes Its Claim

By ColonelMike - 8th Region Week 1 Review: Region 8 Stakes Its Claim By Colonelmike In the pre-season rankings, I pointed out that this might be the deepest, most talented 8th Region in some time. At least ten teams could have the right combination of talent and coaching to win the region this year – and the first week of the season has done nothing to dispel that notion. The depth and quality also means that some very good teams will not make it to the regional tournament. It’s a simple mathematical certainty, especially in districts like the 29th and the 30th, which boast 7 of the region’s 10... Read More →

BluegrassPreps.com 1st Region Week 1 Review

By silo11 - Week One Review: Region One seemed like it would really be about 2 teams this season, Marshall County and McCracken County. However Murray is making a push that they may deserve to be in that conversation as they have wins without two major players right now. St Mary is the biggest mover of the week and look like a strong mid tier team at this point in the season. Here are this weeks rankings: 1. Marshall County Season Record: 1-2 The season started off well for the Marshalls as they breezed past Dawson Springs 90-55. They didn’t have quite the success against BGP#7... Read More →

BluegrassPreps.com 12th Region Review Week 1

By se7ens - 1) Lincoln County (2-0) – Lincoln County retains the top spot, going 2-0 in Week 1 with wins over Lafayette and Rockcastle County. Junior guard Baylor Mattingly, who did not make an appearance on the preseason Top 10 Players list, starts the season out averaging 17.5 points per game. 2) Somerset (1-0) – The Briar Jumpers had a light week with only one game, a 66-50 home win over Russell County. As the state championship football players start to trickle in, including acclaimed guard Kade Grundy, Somerset is slated to play this week against regional foes Boyle County and Casey County and at... BluegrassPreps.com 11th Region Boys Basketball Week 1 Review

By mooremiller31 - The first week of the 2019-20 season is in the books. An exciting week in the 11th Region which included some "upsets" and surprising results. Our preseason #1 team has already taken a loss to a team in the region and other top teams are off to rough starts. Lets check out what happened this week! Team Rankings 1. Lexington Catholic (3-0) - The Knights got off to a great start this season. Their opening game featured a visit from top ranked Covington Catholic. The Knights were able to pull out a 1 point victory at home in a highly competitive game. To finish the week Lexington Catholic... Read More →

Bluegrass.com 2nd Region Week 1 Review

By silo11 - Week One Review: It has been a while since the best record in District 8 belonged to Fort Campbell. While they are still at the bottom of the rankings in that district, it shows how far that district has fallen. Right now it is all about Madisonville-North Hopkins and their possible run to a state title. At the present moment, there is not a team in the 2nd region that can hang with the Maroons. Webster County has gotten off to a great start and look pretty impressive in doing so. They have jumped up to the second position in the rankings. There are a plethora of mid-tier teams that... 10th Region Week 1 Review: Two at the Top

By teeroy - Three tiers are starting to emerge. George Rogers Clark and Bourbon County appear to be fighting for supremacy and look to continue to establish themselves as co-10th region favorites. Campbell County (who lost to GRC), Robertson County, Montgomery County, Bishop Brossart, and Mason County appear to be in next tier. These teams can compete for a region title if they can make some necessary improvements. The other nine teams seem to have a lot to improve on in order to challenge the teams in tier 2. But I expect one or two of them to be able to move up into tier 2. 1. George Rogers... Read More →

BluegrassPreps.com 16th Region Week 1 Review

By zebraman - Week 1 is in the books. While the picture is still fuzzy, we have enough to know it is going to be an exciting year of basketball in the 16th! 1) Ashland (3-0) Ashland started the season off on fire. The pace will be blistering this year out of Ashland. Hudson, Sellers, and Porter are every bit as good as advertised. This week they had wins over Lewis County, Region 15 Power Johnson Central, and Madison Central. 2) Boyd County (2-0) Boyd County had a good win at Russell in what was an impressive environment for the first week of the season. Boyd was calm and just did what... Read More →

By ApolloFan98 - 1. Owensboro Red Devils (2-0) SAME The Red Devils opened the season short handed against Union County this week and suprised a lot of people with a blowout 30 point win. Tucker Hagan had 24 points while Amari Robinson Wales added 18. The win really showed the depth of this roster. On Saturday, they hung on to beat University Heights. Jaden Greathouse led OHS with 19 and Wales added 16. They will be tested this week with games against Warren Central, Daviess County and Castle, IN. 2. 13th Region Week One Review: A new No. 1

By Les - We’ve got a new No. 1 in the 13th Region after only one week of play. Glenn Gray’s Clay County Tigers take over the top spot, but will be challenged throughout the season by a handful of teams. South Laurel, North Laurel, Knox Central, Harlan County, and Williamsburg are currently the main threats to unseat the Tigers. 1. Clay County (3-0) The Tigers are off and running after picking up impressive wins over both Oneida Baptist (79-57) Corbin (91-74) and Woodford County (65-64) this past week. Connor Robinson continues to show he’s one of the best players in the region while Evan... Read More →

Seventh Region Week 1 Review: A Two-Team Race?

By Smallhoops - Is it too early to declare the Seventh Region a two-team race? Probably. But Male and Ballard have both started the season without one of their top returnees (Howard Fleming for Male, Rashad Bishop for Ballard), and they still look to be a notch above the competition, even with Male losing to a Tennessee team in the Marshall County Hoopfest. We’ll see how things go as the season progresses, but Male and Ballard have started strong and will only get stronger when Fleming and Bishop return. TEAM RANKINGS 1. Male Bulldogs (2-1) The big news for Male this week was that it suffered... Read More →

Sixth Region Week 1 Review: It Looks To Be A Good Year

By Smallhoops - This will be an interesting year in the Sixth Region. There already has been some substantial movement from the preseason rankings, and I suspect that trend will continue. Some of the first week’s results that caught my eye were DeSales’ season-opening win over the defending state champions Trinity Shamrocks, the Doss Dragons’ wins over Bullitt East and Bullitt Central, and Western’s close loss to Fern Creek (76-73). I am sure there will be many more interesting results in the weeks to come. It is going to be a fun season in the Sixth. TEAM RANKINGS 1. Fern Creek Tigers (2-1) The... Read More →
