Class 4A Notebook (10/23): Almost Caught Looking Ahead?

By DragonFire - Last week when I looked ahead at the schedule for week 9, I found the slate to be rather underwhelming, and it made it difficult to designate a game of the week. That pretty much bore out. There were nine games featuring top 10 teams – none against another ranked team – and those games were won by an average of 28.89 points, with all but one being decided by 15+ points. But two did stand out in their surprisingly close margins given what was expected, and it seems no coincidence that the winning team in each are going to play this week – perhaps each got caught peeking. #5 Corbin... Bluegrasspreps Mr. Football Watchlist (10/23)

By DevilMayCare - Front Runners Beau Allen (QB, Lexington Catholic) Week 9: Allen found the hosts more agreeable in Paris than he did the previous week in Danville. He dusted himself off after the loss to Boyle County and got back on track against Bourbon County, totalling 418 yards of offense (341 passing/77 rushing) and five passing touchdowns, plus another on the ground. He's the first QB in the state this season to reach 3,000 yards of offense and trails only Drew Hartz (40) in touchdowns accounted for (38). Season to date: 179/258 for 2,683 yards and 29 TDs/3 ints. - 385 yards rushing/9 TDs Read More →

Class 2A Notebook- Filling in the Corners

By ATLCat - The Puzzle Pieces Come Together This past July I did something with my niece and nephew on vacation I had not done since I was a kid myself. Over the span of the week, with whatever free time became open at lunch or at night before bed, we worked on a 500 piece jigsaw puzzle. It was an especially daunting challenge at first as it seemed overwhelming with so many pieces looking the same, but the old tried and true rule of feeling in the corners and framing the picture allowed us to get going and once the patterns became noticeable and the pieces thinned out, we wrapped it up much quicker in... Bluegrasspreps' Eastern Kentucky Power Rankings 10-22

By ATLCat - 1. Johnson Central Golden Eagles (4A, 8-0)- The Eagles ran wild on the poor Harlan County Black Bears and need only a win over Letcher Central to finish their regular season District slate undefeated. 2. Bell County Bobcats (3A, 8-0)- Undefeated and relatively unchallenged, the Bobcats keep their blowout tour in tact by destroying Jackson County. Estill County is the next victim in their path. 3. Pikeville Panthers (1A, 8-0)- Pikeville took a highly anticipated 1A Clash with Hazard and turned it into an exhibition game by pounding the Bulldogs. Don't be fooled by their small enrollment,... BluegrassPreps Football Rankings (10/21)

By Ram - Class 1A Pikeville continued to flex their muscle against the best 1A has to offer, completing their trifecta of statement wins by punishing Hazard on the road. The last piece to the Eastern Kentucky puzzle falls into place this week when Raceland and Paintsville meet in a blossoming rivalry. Campbellsville survived a scare against a game Bethlehem squad, but still have work to do as Louisville Holy Cross is more than equipped to pull off the upset. Williamsburg finds themselves in a similar position, a week after beating Pineville they cannot let their guard down against Lynn Camp. 1.... Read More →

Class 5A Notebook (10/20): Glancing at the second wave

By DevilMayCare - Ignore these four at your own risk From the northern reaches of Park Hills, to the "farm(s)" of central Kentucky, to Corvette City, we're pretty familiar with most of 5A's contenders, but there's a middle tier of teams that have largely been glossed over. This week, we're going to turn our attention to 5A's equivalent of the "middle child". #6 South Oldham - In regards to the Dragons, it's easy to see why they're consistently overlooked every year around this time. In 2017 and 2018, they dropped the season opener to the Christian Academy of Louisville before embarking on a long winning... Read More →

By Purple88 - BluegrassPreps 2019 Western Kentucky Power Rankings – Week 9 Edition The top story line this week reflects the stellar play of our Top 11 squads in the West! All 11 (save the Hopkinsville BYE) won in very convincing fashion (save Glasgow, who played a very worthy District Foe)! But for Spots 12 through 20, most found unfavorable results with 6 of those 9 taking losses, albeit against very sound competition! But some great games and surprise results for us to discuss for sure! So let’s get to it… Week 9 Western Kentucky Game of the Week: 2A Caldwell County... Read More →

No "Slow Down" for Red Hot Ashland

By gchs_uk9 - Ashland Storms Back from Early Deficit to Top Russell Down 14-0 early, Ashland did what they're known for to get back to a tie game: run the football. Then they did what came as a surprise to many to win the game: throw a 97-yard touchdown pass. That pass, from Jake Gregg to JT Garrett with 3:35 remaining in the game, proved to be the difference as the third-ranked Tomcats beat #6 Russell, 21-14. "Too big of a game to slow down," Garrett said to the Ashland Daily Independent. "We’ve been working on that play all week. It turned out perfect." (Air it to Garrett: Junior's 97-yard TD... NKY Power Rankings: 10-18-19

By Colonels_Wear_Blue - 1) 5A Covington Catholic (8-0) – The Colonels accomplished quite a few tasks on Friday with their 27-7 victory over OH-DII LaSalle (6-1). First, they managed to maintain a now 28-game regular season win streak by beating a team ranked nationally in the top 100 teams by most national polls. Second, they ticked off their 4th ever win against a GCL South team in one of their most marquee regular season wins in program history. And third, they successfully completed a third-straight regular season of being undefeated at home. QB Caleb Jacob was 12-24 passing for 199yds in the game against a... Read More →

Central Kentucky/Lexington Power Rankings 10/18/19

By WestDanville - After 8 weeks Central Kentucky has 2 teams that are far above the rest in Boyle County and Frederick Douglass. Both teams feature stout Defenses and Offenses that can light up the scoreboard. So far both schools are among the favorites to win their respective classes. I wish somehow these 2 schools could play each other this season because it would be one heck of a game! The top ten 1. Boyle County (4A, 7-0, RPI .748) Last week: The Rebels finished their run through the gauntlet with an exclamation point 64-28 win over Lexington Catholic. The 3 games that were supposed to give... Bluegrasspreps Mr. Football Watchlist (10/16)

By DevilMayCare - Front Runners Beau Allen (QB, Lexington Catholic) Week 8: Beau knows how to do a lot of things on a football field, including how to spin a spheroid with the best of them. But the knowledge of how to beat Boyle County has eluded him the last three years. Allen's right arm was present and accounted for last Friday against the Rebels, but unfortunately for Lexington Catholic, he doesn't play defense. He threw for 308 yards with three total touchdowns, and the Knights put up a fight early, but were eventually overwhelmed by a force of nature disguised as Boyle County's offense. Season...
