8th Region Week 12 in Review: Walton-Verona and Collins remain 1-2

By ColonelMike - 8th Region Week 12 Review – Walton – Collins Still 1-2 Amazingly, the end of the season has already arrived. District tournament play begins this week, and in a few short weeks, only one team will be left standing, holding high a trophy at midcourt at Rupp Arena. In between is game after game after game. Fatigue, stress, adrenaline, more fatigue, guts, sweat, more sweat, still more sweat, halftime speeches, coaching adjustments, mental tests, emotional outbursts, and exhaustion. But – as Manfred Mann sang in his hit song, “Blinded by the Light”: “But mama, that’s where the fun... Read More →

15th Region Regular Season Review - District Tournament Preview - Awards

By 15th Region - 15th Region Overview: The region has been controlled by four teams all season and it would be a shock if one of those did not make it to Rupp Arena this March. Two time defending champion Pikeville, Johnson Central who has been to seven consecutive regional title games, a talented Paintsville squad and Shelby Valley who has shown consistent dominance throughout the season all have legitimate chances to punch their ticket at the EXPO if they can get out of districts. Aside from the big four, there are many other story lines that will take place in the district tournaments this week and there... Read More →

9th Region Final Rankings and District Tournament Preview

By PP1 - As my rookie year comes to a close, I hope everyone has enjoyed my weekly articles. It’s funny when I look back and read my regional preview, then compared it to how the season played out. I am looking forward to seeing some games this week and will make a point of watching Ludlow and Villa Madonna play Monday. The Panthers and Vikings are the only teams that I have not seen play this year (I don’t count Covington Latin) and look forward to catching this one. If any other members will be in attendance, please come shake my hand. There are too many amazing games going on Tuesday night. I... Read More →

7th Region Week 12 Review, Team and Player Rankings, and District Tournament Previews

By Smallhoops - Another regular season is in the books, and it was another great year in the Seventh Region. Trinity, led by KABC Seventh Region Player of the Year David Johnson, had another outstanding season and ends the regular season where it started, at the top of the rankings. Traditional power Ballard also had another solid season, although it heads into the post-season with perhaps more questions than usual. But the biggest news in the Seventh Region concerns the teams who may challenge those two this post-season. The Waggener Wildcats, coached by Seventh Region Coach of the Year Bryan O’Neill,... By DragonFire - Final Rankings and Postseason Preview 1) Bowling Green (22-5) High Rank - 1, Low Rank - 2, Average Rank - 1 You wouldn’t know it from the rankings, but few teams in the region experienced as much turmoil as the Purples.
