Class 4A Notebook (10/15): A Little Shakeup

By DragonFire - Last week's notebook asked where are the upsets, and finally, 4A had an answer. To be fair, it was right in the week we were looking for them, but still, it was a prolonged period of calm. Knox Central entered the week rated #4 and unbeaten against Kentucky competition. They traveled to #7 Franklin County for a possible region final preview, good enough to earn honors as the game of the week in 4A. Franklin County drew first blood and the mental edge, flying (if you'll excuse the pun) to a 42-20 victory. They never trailed, enjoying leads of 14-0, 28-6, and 42-14. It was a dominating... BluegrassPreps Football Rankings (10/15)

By Ram - Class 1A Paintsville needed everything they had to withstand a late charge from Hazard after building a big lead in a battle of Top 5 wins last week. The Tigers will need to put two strong halves together if they hope to take down Raceland up by the Ohio River. Lynn Camp kept their undefeated dreams alive with a convincing win over Harlan. The Wildcats now face the biggest hurdle of the season when they host Williamsburg with the district title on the line. Frankfort may not have a number by their name, but the Panthers are right on front porch of the Top 10 and can kick the door down with... Read More →

Class 5A Notebook (10/14): Birds raise stock in defeat

By DevilMayCare - During the build up to CovCath/Highlands, predictions ranged from a Highlands upset to a running clock victory for the Colonels. Someone even called for both outcomes in the same post in the pregame thread. The majority opinion seemed to be that, while Highlands was greatly improved over the past couple of years, Covington Catholic was simply too good to fall prey to the upset. A Highlands win would have turned the top of 5A upside down. Conversely, a lopsided CovCath victory would have affirmed the Colonels’ status as 5A championship favorites. Instead, what we got was somewhere in between.... Read More →

3A Notebook: Boyle and Corbin Make Case for Head of the Pack

By gchs_uk9 - Rebels and Redhounds Pick Up Big Wins on Way to Potential Playoff Showdown Undefeated Boyle County has spent the entire season ranked first in the Bluegrasspreps' Class 3A Rankings. The debate about who should be second has centered around three teams: Corbin, Central, and Belfry. Each of the three has their strong qualities and none of the three have a taken a bad loss. On Friday night, however, with two games being played between ranked teams in Class 3A, Boyle County and Corbin gained resounding victories and served notice they were both more than capable of yet another deep run in the... Undefeated Ashland and rival Belfry. 2. Ashland Tomcats (4A, 9-0)- The only thing standing in the way of Ashland's pursuit of a flawless 10-0 regular season is #1 Johnson Central on the road. Class 2A Notebook 10/14- Sorting Out the Playoff Picture

By ATLCat - District 1 Mayfield is the #1 team in the State so it lends itself the Cardinals have essentially locked down another District Title. Technically, this week's Ballard Memorial and Murray game is left to define the 2-seed, but we can go ahead and pencil Murray in as the 2-seed. Ballard Memorial defeated Webster County head to head so the Bombers will claim the 3-spot unless they pull the shocking upset. Projected Finish: 1. Mayfield 2. Murray 3. Ballard Memorial 4. Webster County Read More →

NKY Power Rankings: 10-11-18

By Colonels_Wear_Blue - 1) 5A Covington Catholic (7-0) – The Colonels headed up to Indianapolis on Friday to take on IN-3A Bishop Chatard (6-2), and came home with an important 52-36 win over the Trojans. The Colonels had their hands full at halftime, but were able to pull away in the second half, thanks largely to sophomore Caleb Jacob’s phenomenal work at QB. Caleb was 19-30 passing for 385yds and 3 TDs. WR Jack Coldiron stacked up 145yds and 1 TD receiving, and TE Michael Mayer added 129yds and 2 TDs receiving, while RB Casey McGinness came in strong, as always, with 158yds rushing for 2 TDs. Class 4A Notebook (10/9): Where Are the Upsets?

By DragonFire - In the several years that I've been writing about 4A, it has just been stupid how inconsistent the class is. In the past five years, there have been five different schools that won the state title. Almost every time you think you know something, you find out that you were completely wrong. In 2015, we knew Johnson Central was the best team. In 2016, we knew South Warren was going to repeat. Last year, we knew Johnson Central was going to repeat. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. I've gotten used to everything being unpredictable. Yet here we are, entering our fourth straight week with the exact... Read More →

6A Notebook 10/8: Clear Cut #2?

By Bac2369 - Clear Cut #2 This was a short week for several high school football teams with some Thursday night action. The 6A Football Class had four match-ups on Thursday, starting with the Male, Butler, Trinity, and Henry Clay. #1 Male traveled to Bryan Station to continue its perfect season. Male made quick work of this contest, getting the 57-28 win. #4 Butler was also on the road this week, but just a quick trip to Pleasure Ridge Park for a district match-up. Butler also made quick work of Pleasure Ridge Park. Chaz Burks threw for 208 yards and 4 touchdowns. Noted as well, Jordan Watkins... Read More →

Louisville Power Rankings 10/8

By TheDeuce - 1. 6A Male (8-0) The Bulldogs traveled to Lexington last week looking to continue their winning ways, and did just that. Male defeated 6A Bryan Station 57-28. At first glance, it would seem as if Station had some success against the stingy Male defense, but the score was 57-8 at the break, and the majority of Station's points were scored on reserves. Male will host 6A Saint Xavier this week to determine the winner of the district. 2. 2A Christian Academy - Louisville (7-0) They had to wait seven weeks, but CAL finally got the signature win they'd likely had circled since August,...
