Class 2A Notebook 8/20- Come at Me Bro!

By ATLCat - What an excellent week for Class 2A! After proving itself as perhaps pound for pound the toughest class last year, the 2018 season started with the top three teams all making a statement in a big way. DeSales Serves Notice No one in the State would doubt that DeSales had a football team capable of putting up a fight against one of Kentucky's elite large school programs. The Colts are perennially one of the Top 20 overall teams in Kentucky and have made a tradition of knocking off other 6A programs in Jefferson County. With that said, very few people outside of fans of the Colts'... Read More →

BluegrassPreps Rankings (8/20)

By Ram - Class 1A For the seven teams in Class 1A's Top 8 who were in action, Week 1 was ripe with victory and great starts. Nearly every team overwhelmed their opponent and got 2018 off to a roaring start. Week 2 will be ripe with challenges. Five different teams will face ranked foes, headlined by defending champion Beechwood taking the field for the first time against Lloyd. Perhaps the most anticipated match-up will come as Raceland challenges one of 4A's top teams in a huge rivalry game. 1. Beechwood vs. 2A #8 Lloyd 2. Pikeville vs. 2A #10 Lexington Christian (8/25) 3. Raceland at 4A #3... Read More →

5A Notebook: Colonels roll, Purples bowl, Spartans in control

By DevilMayCare - As opening weekends go, Week 0 in 5A was rather uneventful. That's not to say that there weren't some noteworthy performances and close calls. But the opening weekend of the season can usually be counted on to deliver some unexpected surprises (I'm looking at you 6A!). Relative to its neighbors to the north, 5A was downright pedestrian this past week - not that that's a bad thing. There was much to digest from the week that was - a couple of heavyweights gave all indications that they're not going to budge from their lofty perches; another brand name program showed enough resolve to overcome... Louisville Power Rankings - August 20th

By TheDeuce - 1. 6A Male (1-0) The Bulldogs traveled across the river to Floyds Knobs to take on Floyd Central (IN) in their 2018 opener and posted a 41-3 victory. Led by senior QB Garrett Dennis, who was 7/10 for 100 yards and two scores, the Bulldogs dominated FC throughout. On top of Dennis' performance, Male rushed for 305 yards on the evening, and Izayah Cummings added 78 receiving yards and two more scores. We have gone from I think this and that to I saw this and that from THIS years squads. The top story line this week is anticipation. It is a fickle thing. Bluegrasspreps' Eastern Kentucky Power Rankings 8-19

By ATLCat - 1. Johnson Central (4A, 0-0)- The Eagles jump into action with a Pre-Season Top 5 team from West Virginia when they welcome the athletic Capital Cougars squad. All reports are that RB Joe Jackson is back and better than ever after he turned heads in a scrimmage against Beechwood. 2. Corbin Redhounds (3A, 1-0)- Corbin was not necessarily in mid-season form against Whitley County, but they also left no doubt they are for real once more. Corbin will take on Defending 2A Champion Danville. 3. Belfry Pirates (3A, 0-0)- Belfry will open against one of the best big schools in West Virginia... Read More →

3A Notebook: Room at the Top for Two?

By gchs_uk9 - Boyle and Central Impressive in Opening Night Victories Much of the preseason talk in Class 3A has been about Boyle County and their potential for winning a second consecutive state championship. With offensive superstars like Reese Smith, Landen Bartleson, and Reed Lanter returning the excitement is certainly warranted. However, with heavy losses on both the offensive and defensive lines there is measured caution for the Rebels this early in the season. Boyle opened the 2018 campaign on Saturday afternoon with a 35-21 victory over 6A #10 Ballard in the Little Caesars Fort Harrod... Read More →

But, in an effort to expand the scope of exposure to all classes and all corners of the state, we've decided to stretch that handful of candidates into a broader watchlist. You'll find a wide range of players listed here - Dual threat and pocket passing Quarterbacks - Skill players posting astronomical numbers - Big guys doing the dirty work in the trenches Read More →

By Voice of Reason - Dj vu All Over Again? In 2017 class 1A, the Beechwood Tigers repeated as champions. Are we going to see another repeat in 2018? The Tigers enter 2018 as strong favorites to win another title. But there are always twists and turns. Teams make unexpected gains and become contenders. There are several teams in 1A this year that could be that unexpected title contender. Most of those are on the east side of the state and will battle each other for a trip to Lexington. Leading the strong contenders list is Pikeville, who defeated Beechwood in the 2015 title game. In the two years since... Read More →

BluegrassPreps.com Class 2A PreSeason Preview

By ATLCat - Big Time Recruits Dominate Small Class Football Landscape It is not uncommon for Class 2A to have some of the best players in the Bluegrass State, but 2018 seems to be a special year as four different players have spent their summer collecting offers and taking visits to many high-profile Division 1 schools. Newport Central Catholic RB/LB Kyle Kelly exploded with offers to basically a Whos Who of MAC schools. Kelly recently committed to Ohio University, the first school to get on board with an offer, and is expected to play Linebacker at the next level. Christian Academy-... Read More →

By gchs_uk9 - 1. Boyle County (2017: 14-1; Class 3A State Champions) Why Yes: After falling to Central in the second round of the playoffs in each of their first two seasons back in Class 3A, the Rebels roared to their eighth state championship in school history in 2017, losing only one game in the process. Now the Rebels look to make it back-to-back titles, something they last accomplished in 2009 and 2010, and will do so with a ton of returning offensive weapons. Quarterback Reed Lanter passed for 2,597 yards and 28 touchdowns against only four interceptions in 2017 and was very impressive on the summer... Read More →

BluegrassPreps.com Class 4A Preseason Preview

By DragonFire - 4A was quite possibly the most difficult class to get a handle on a season ago. 18 teams appeared in the top 10. Teams like Knox Central and Logan County weren’t exactly on the radar to begin with, but made incredibly strong runs as the season wore on to make believers of us all. Logan County in particular was a great story. It seemed that just about every time we thought we knew what was going to happen, some curveball was introduced. Late in the season, that curveball was an unexpected Johnson Central loss to Ashland, dethroning the team that had been #1 all year long. One Johnson... Read More →

By DevilMayCare - The King is dead?... Long live the King? This time last year, most followers of 5A football in the Bluegrass were wondering who, if anyone, could put an end to Bowling Green's stranglehold on the class. The Purples had run off five of the previous six titles in 5A, amassing an astounding 84-3 record along the way. Even with the graduation of 2016 Mr. Football Jamale Carothers, Bowling Green was still the overwhelming preseason pick to make it six titles in seven years - a testament to Coach Kevin Wallace and his staff’s ability to develop talent and reload year after year. Across town,... Read More →

BluegrassPreps.com Class 6A Preseason Preview

By Bac2369 - The Kentucky High School Football season is almost here. The 2018 season in Class 6A will have two very interesting questions to answer. Can Defending Champions Trinity win the title again and complete a three peat? And how long before they lose a game? For those who don’t know, Trinity is on a 30 game winning streak and counting. So 6A will be an interesting class to keep an eye on. The playoff format for this year will put District 1 playing District 4 and District 2 playing District 3. The other side of the bracket will have District 5 playing District 8 and District 6 playing District 7.... Read More →
