Class 5A Notebook (10/21): Spartans usurp district crown from Purples

By DevilMayCare - After weeks of anticipation for the “Battle of Bowling Green”, the night finally came and went. It started out rather uneventful. But by game's end, the outcome proved incredibly eventful for the victors. The two teams were ranked #2 and #3 all season, though with each passing week more and more folks believed the order should have been reversed. Each team had a stellar quarterback. Each team had a high level, blue chip recruit. Talent was plentiful on both sides, but one team found an edge and rode it to victory. South Warren (9-0) leaned on its typically stout defense and Cameron... Read More →

Western Kentucky Power Rankings - October 21, 2018

By Purple88 - BluegrassPreps 2018 Western Kentucky Power Rankings – Week 10 Edition Concerning the top story line for this week, they say timing is everything and when it comes to the weather it certainly is! I’m not sure it rained any since Friday the 12th! But after normal business hours arrived this past Friday evening, so did a frustrating line of showers to hamper and dampen our Friday Night Pastime! There are certainly worse things to complain about, but for our football family nothing comes to mind quicker than a rainy Friday night … Let’s move on! Popcorn N Coke Top 10 Version – Week... 3A Notebook: Rebels Show Mettle in Victory at Western Hills

By gchs_uk9 - Boyle County Withstands Challenge to Clinch District Championship Last year, Boyle County beat Western Hills twice by a combined score of 133-28. Western Hills' superstar Wandale Robinson compiled 114 yards receiving, 38 yards rushing, and two touchdowns in those games. Many likely assumed Boyle County's trip to the state capital on Friday night to play Western Hills would be more of the same. You'll have to forgive them - they were dead wrong. Top ranked Boyle County and #10 Western Hills slugged it out for three quarters before three fourth quarter touchdowns by the Rebels set the final... Read More →

Bluegrasspreps' Eastern Kentucky Power Rankings 10-21

By ATLCat - 1. Johnson Central Golden Eagles (4A, 8-1)- The Eagles made a statement by taking rival Ashland to the woodshed and locking up homefield advantage. All that remains now is a battle with Belfry for power running game bragging rights. 2. Corbin Redhounds (3A, 8-1)- Corbin leaned on their Defense for a shutout and stretched their legs late to put away Casey County and lock up a District Title. The Hounds will look for geographical supremacy with Knox Central in a nice season finale clash. 3. Belfry Pirates (3A, 8-1)- Belfry keeps their momentum rolling by polishing off another running... Class 2A Notebook 10/21-Why and Why Not

By ATLCat - Breaking Down The Top Teams' Title Chances: MAYFIELD Why Mayfield Will Win the Title- The Cardinals check every box you want. They have a balanced and explosive Offense that is equally adept at putting together long scoring drives as well as big play strikes for sudden points. They have an opportunistic Defense capable of making plays in the backfield. Why Mayfield Will Not Win the Title- The Cardinals have to take their show on the road and will most likely have to play three of the Top teams in the State away from War Memorial Stadium. Perhaps their stiffest test short of the Finals... Read More →

BluegrassPreps Lexington/Central Kentucky Area Power Rankings 10-18-18

By PurplePride92 - For the first time this year I am at an impasse when it comes to the Central Kentucky/Lexington Area Power Rankings. After seeing last week’s results I can’t find a good reason to make a change in the rankings. And believe me, I’ve been looking for a reason to make some kind of change. I just can’t do it. I don’t see any reason to change anything. Because of that I am going to change things up a bit this week. I think there are many different things that can be touched on regarding the Central Kentucky/Lexington Area so after I post the Top Ten, Be On The Lookout For, Game of the Week, Last... By DevilMayCare - Quarterbacks Beau Buchanan, Bowling Green (7-1, ranked #2 in 5A) Week 8: Last Friday night was a night to forget if you are in any way, shape, or form associated with Bowling Green football. The Purples were simply outclassed in every way by Warren Central (IN). Buchanan must have felt like he was playing against the ‘85 Bears. He finished 11 of 27 for 40 yards and a TD. Season to date: 142 of 236 for 1,695 yards and 17 TDs with 4 ints. Stock: DOWN Read More →

By Colonels_Wear_Blue - 1) 5A Covington Catholic (8-0) – On Friday, the Colonels extended an undefeated that dates back to August of 2017 by pulling out a nail-biter of a win, beating 5A Highlands (6-2) by a score of 21-14. The outcome of the game was still in question until Cov Cath defense managed to make a big 4th and 7 stop at their own 33 yard line with only 40 seconds left in the game. The passing game was lacking on Friday, with QB Caleb Jacob only at 4-10 passing for 45yds and no TDs through the air. RB Casey McGinness carried for 203yds and 2 TDs, and Duncan Summe added the other TD on a 9yd carry. Jack... Read More →

Louisville Power Rankings 10/15

By TheDeuce - 1. 6A St. Xavier (6-2) Since starting 0-2, the St. X has improved each week, despite multiple injuries to key players, specifically their starting QB. He didn't play last week, but that did not keep the Tigers from winning their sixth straight game, and knocking off previously unbeaten 6A Male, 28-13. Backup QB Douglas Bodhaine led the way, going 9/13 for 125 yards and a score through the air. He also added 90 rushing yards and another TD. The Tigers travel to 6A Butler this week. 2. 6A Male (8-1) It took eight weeks, but Male finally ran into a team who's defense was better, even if it... Read More →

6A Notebook 10/17: Shocking Results

By Bac2369 - The 6A Kentucky football season continues its wild ways as the 6A Game of the Week left us with shocking results. District play has also been in full swing and Simon Kenton and McCracken County have locked up the 1 seed in the playoffs for their respective districts. Last week's "Game of the Week" featured #1 Male and #3 Saint Xavier. #1 Male got on the board first via a pass from a blown coverage. Saint Xavier punted on the next drive but they recovered the punt after it hit a Male player. Saint Xavier would turn that into points, knotting the game at 7-7 late in the first quarter. Saint... Class 4A Notebook (10/15): A Little Shakeup

By DragonFire - Last week's notebook asked where are the upsets, and finally, 4A had an answer. To be fair, it was right in the week we were looking for them, but still, it was a prolonged period of calm. Knox Central entered the week rated #4 and unbeaten against Kentucky competition. They traveled to #7 Franklin County for a possible region final preview, good enough to earn honors as the game of the week in 4A. Franklin County drew first blood and the mental edge, flying (if you'll excuse the pun) to a 42-20 victory. They never trailed, enjoying leads of 14-0, 28-6, and 42-14. It was a dominating... BluegrassPreps Football Rankings (10/15)

By Ram - Class 1A Paintsville needed everything they had to withstand a late charge from Hazard after building a big lead in a battle of Top 5 wins last week. The Tigers will need to put two strong halves together if they hope to take down Raceland up by the Ohio River. Lynn Camp kept their undefeated dreams alive with a convincing win over Harlan. The Wildcats now face the biggest hurdle of the season when they host Williamsburg with the district title on the line. Frankfort may not have a number by their name, but the Panthers are right on front porch of the Top 10 and can kick the door down with... Read More →
