BluegrassPreps.com's Seventh Region update and rankings - 12/18/17

By Smallhoops - Three weeks into the season and we are down to two unbeaten teams in the Seventh Region, the Trinity Shamrocks and the Waggener Wildcats. Both face big challenges this week, with Trinity playing in the ultra-competitive King of the Bluegrass tournament and Waggener facing Scott County and George Rogers Clark (and Covington Holmes). Conversely, there now are no winless teams remaining in the Seventh Region. Seneca and Central were the last to get on the victory train, and they did so in impressive and exciting fashion this week, with Seneca beating St. X in overtime and Central beating... Read More →

Inside the 13th Region (12/17/17)

By Les - 1. (tie) Knox Central (7-1 overall, 0-0 vs. 13th Region competition) The Panthers got off to their best start in more than 20 years after beating Johnson Central Friday, 77-69, but suffered their first loss of the season to West Virginia’s George Washington High School on Saturday, losing, 74-65. Senior guard Markelle Turner led the way with 27 points. With both Knox Central and Corbin being so close, I’ve gotta leave both of them tied atop the rankings. I’m thinking next week’s Cumberland Falls Invitational will show who the best team is. 1. (tie) Corbin (5-1, 3-0) The Redhounds had a... Read More →

BluegrassPreps.com 6th Region Weekly Rankings (12/18)

By coachlee - 1. Fern Creek (6-1): After the Trinity loss, Fern Creek went back to business with 2 wins in local games (Whitefield & Male) and one very significant win at the Ramey Showdown Showcase in St. Louis versus the #1 ranked team in Missouri, Webster Groves. Fern Creek entered the contest with their three top players fighting nagging ailments. Ahmad Price has a bad thumb on his shooting hand, Anthony Wales had been battling the flu bug most of the week, and Clint Wickliffe has a banged up shoulder. Wickliffe did not play, but Wales bounced back with 24 and Price added 15 in the upset of Webster... Read More →

2nd Region Team Rankings 12/17/17

By WKY - Through the first 3 weeks of the season it has become clear that the region will indeed be a 4 horse race, maybe fewer. We are still waiting for our first power matchup of the season between the big 4, but there has been a lot of action in the middle of the pack that made ranking teams 5-9 very tough. Rank (Preseason Rank) Team (Overall Record, Region Record) 1 (1) Christian County (8-2, 3-0) - The Lady Colonels continue to blow past region competition and their only 2 losses have been by a combined 6 points. 6-3 center Trinitee Jackson is playing to her potential and that is a scary... BluegrassPreps.com 2nd Region Week 2 Review

By silo11 - It has been a long time since Region 2 has been this volatile and unpredictable. The top 3 teams are still from District 8, but none of the 3 have shown they are head and heels better than anyone else, and none are top 25 teams in the state, despite the current BGP rankings (those will change). Hopkinsville have lost their top 3 players, otherwise it would be a different story. Christian County has a superstar in D.Ware, but if he is shut down, they will probably lose. UHA is much of the same story, huge superstar in KyKy Tandy, but if he is contained, what do they have. The surprise... Read More →

Some big time matchups were unfortunately cancelled due to weather this weekend but still plenty to talk about! Team of the Week Madison Central - The Indians only had one game this week but they made it count coming away with a huge 20 point win over 10th Region favorite George Rogers Clark. BluegrassPreps.com 9th Region Week 2 Review (12/11/17)

By MidwestUnited - Game of the Week: Newport Central Catholic(4) vs. Covington Catholic(1) Before the game started, Covington Catholic and Newport Central Catholic honored the life of Bob “Bopper” Finnell for his support of northern Kentucky high school sports. For the first sell-out game of the year, Newport Central Catholic came to Park Hills without three injured starters. Covington Catholic was also without three players as members of the football team sat out a week after winning the 5A state championship. CovCath started the first quarter off by scoring 34 points. The Colonels were led by Aiden Ruthsatz... Read More →

BluegrassPreps.com's Seventh Region update and rankings - 12/11/17

By Smallhoops - Trinity showed why it is top-ranked in the Seventh Region (and in the state) in its 76-67 defeat of Sixth Region favorite Fern Creek on Saturday. As MentschTrachtGottLacht said in the thread about the game, it was big boy basketball. Perhaps the second most notable game of the week in the Seventh Region was Waggener’s 83-70 win over the St. Xavier Tigers. While St. X was playing without two expected starters who are just returning to the hardwood after the end of the football season, the win improved Waggener’s record to 4-0 and moves them up to third in this week’s rankings. At... Read More →

BluegrassPreps.com 3rd Region Rankings 12/11/17

By ApolloFan98 - While competitive within the region, 3rd region teams have not faired well against outside competition. The top 5 teams have some bad losses to Warren East and Madisonville. Meanwhile top ranked teams Warren Central and John Hardin have also had their way with 3rd region opponents. The 3rd has a ways to go before they can prove they can hang with top state competition. 1.Owensboro Catholic Aces (4-1) - SAME - The Aces continued their hot start this week with big double digit wins over Muhlenberg 50-38 & Apollo 75-59. The win over Apollo was especially impressive with Apollo's solid... Read More →

Bluegrasspreps.com Region 8 Week 2 in Review - 12/10/17

By ColonelMike - Two weeks into the season, the favorites are still the favorites, but we have started to learn some things as the games have been played: ...Except for District 30, the favorites seem to have stepped forward in each district. Walton-Verona (32nd), Oldham County (29th), and Gallatin County (31st) seem to have established themselves as the clear front-runners in their respective districts. In the 30th, the view seems a bit more muddied. Defending 8th region champ Collins? Slumping Anderson? Up-and-coming Spencer? ...nobody can shoot free throws, or at least, it sure seems that...
