BluegrassPreps Football Rankings (10/23)

By Ram - Class 1A Paintsville is officially the undisputed regular season Champion of the Eastern Semi-State. The Tigers took care of Raceland in convincing fashion and now own victories over all four teams in the East that are currently ranked. The Tigers now turn their focus on a ranked 3A Fleming County to wrap up their regular season. Kentucky Country Day got all they could handle from Frankfort, yet the Bearcats prevailed. They test their team speed against the ultra-athletic Waggener Wildcats. Though the regular season is ending we still have two more treats just in time for Halloween.... Read More →

Class 2A Notebook 9/26- The Superlatives

By ATLCat - It is common place at many High Schools to award "Senior Superlatives" to the departing Seniors at the end of their tenure as a way to close the book. As an exciting regular season draws to an end in quiet possibly the best pound for pound class this year in Kentucky, it only seems fitting to adopt this policy and hand out some Superlatives to recognize specific teams, individuals, and moments that brought us to where we are. Without further ado, here are your 2017 Class 2A Superlatives: "Most Improved"- Todd County Central Rebels This one was easy. The Rebels made history and kept... Read More →

1A Game of the Week:1A #6 Paris vs. 1A #7 Ludlow

By Bac2369 - Wow it seems like this football season just started yesterday and here we are at the last game of the regular season. After this week is when the real season starts and it's win or go home. But before that, the 1A Game of the Week features two top ten dark horses, Paris and Ludlow, who hope they can surprise some teams in the playoffs. These two teams come with an impressive 8-1 record so one of these two teams is going to be 8-2 before the playoff start. Paris has put big numbers up on the season averaging 38 points a game and only giving up 10 points per game. Ludlow is averaging 42... Read More →

3A Notebook: Rebels Have Look of Championship Squad

By gchs_uk9 - Boyle County Bottles Robinson, Stakes Claim as Best Team in Class Boyle County entered Friday's game with #9 Western Hills having won six straight, including district victories over Garrard County and Lexington Catholic. It would take a win over the Wolverines and talented running back Wandale Robinson to assure the Rebels a sixteenth district championship but first since 2013. Boyle's defense, which was allowing 88 yards per game on the ground, would be put to the test against Robinson, who averages 243 yards per game and is among the top recruits in the commonwealth. How did they... Read More →

2A Game of the Week: 2A #4 Mayfield at 3A #6 Caldwell County

By DevilMayCare - Where did the time go? Every year, during the off-season, we gather here at Bluegrass Preps and anxiously count down the days until the kickoff of Week 0. Those 37 weeks can feel like an eternity. The season itself? Seemingly gone in the blink of an eye. As the regular season is nearing its end, it's now time for the annual, and occasionally odd, out of district finale. I say “occasionally odd”, because playoff seeding and destinations have now been set in stone. Everyone knows who they're playing in Round 1, and whether they're hitting the road, or potentially settling in for a nice,... Read More →

3A/4A Game of the Week: 3A #1 Belfry vs. 4A #1 Johnson Central

By DevilMayCare - We've all heard of the irresistible force paradox, right? It poses the conundrum, what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object? Of course, there's really no answer, because, well… it's a paradox. Have any words ever been more appropriate for describing the participants in a football game than “unstoppable force” and ”immovable object” in regards to Belfry and Johnson Central? Those terms aptly fit the defending 3A and 4A state champions to a tee. Both teams are big, strong, physical and tenacious. Neither team gives much ground, yet both teams always seem to be moving... By JDEaston - This week many football fans across the state will finally be able to take in a long awaited game as the the Spartans of South Warren make the short trek into town to take on the Bowling Green Purples, the first installment in what will likely be a long term rivalry. Not only is this a long awaited game among the fan bases, it also has huge playoff implications, as well as the right to earn the number two ranking in the class. The Purples hold that spot at the moment, with South Warren rising to the number three position this week. Bowling Green enters this game with a five game winning... Read More →

Class 4A Notebook (10/19): A Calm Week

By DragonFire - This week provided one of the rarest sights in 4A this season – almost every single team in the top ten won. Nine teams out of the top ten won their games, many of them handily. Only two games featured margins of less than ten points, and that came in spots 9 & 10. It’s a seldom-seen week of breathing easily for the favorites of 4A. With that, we’ll begin with the close games. #9 Allen County-Scottsville began the year on a tear, crushing weaker opponents in Hart County and Barren County before completing fourth quarter comebacks against pre-decline Greenwood and 2A ranked Glasgow. ... 1A Notebook 10/17 - Chicken or the Egg?

By Voice of Reason - We will do a review of last week's action and look ahead to this Friday's key games, but before we do that let's talk about scheduling and strength of schedule. This subject was brought up by some posters in discussing the Beechwood / Ludlow game. There were comments made about Beechwood's scheduling of big schools and it was even commented that they really aren't a 1A school because they play so many games against big schools. So let's talk schedules. The Chicken or the Egg? How should you schedule if you are or want to be a state title contender in 1A? I think most everyone would... Read More →

Louisville Power Rankings 10-17-17

By Bert - 1. Trinity (9-0) – Same story last week as the week before, Trinity easily beats another team. This time Seneca 42-0. Next week will be Ballard and the story will mostly be the same. 2. St. Xavier (7-1) – X pretty much cemented its place as the number 2 team in the Louisville Power Rankings and possibly the state as a whole with a very solid shut out win (27-0) over number 3 Male. Things get a bit easier as they welcome Butler this week. 3. Male (7-2) – Not the best showing for Male last week as the Bulldogs could not put a point on the board. Male get its swagger back with a... Read More →
